What gets on your nerves at work?(self.starbucksbaristas)

For me:
1. People who don’t put the sticker over the boxes
2. People who leave out their milks
3. People who don’t clean/rinse their blenders/shakers/steaming cups
4. People who put super messy drinks on the DTO/DTR counter, like the drink is just leaking everywhere or super messy and leaves it for DTO/DTR to clean before handing off
5. People who talk non-stop on headset when no one is engaging in conversation with them and they’re just babbling
6. People on DTO who don’t ask iced or hot, what size, whip or no whip, lemonade or water
7. People who stand in the way doing nothing while other people are rushing around them
8. People who go wayyyy over time on breaks/lunches
9. People who don’t wipe down their counters
10. People who sit and talk on DTR when the next several orders are made (I understand making conversation when you’re waiting on something, but it’s annoying when the next few orders are done and they’re just holding up the line)

people who help on bar by just telling me to move to cold bar instead of asking where i need help/offering a hand in an area i’m struggling with
Responsible_Snow710928 points1y ago
Oh my God stop. Whenever I'm on hot bar, I'll put cold drinks on the cold bar counter so that it won't crowd up my hot bar counter and also if anybody sees it that has free time then they can help me with it. I have a bunch of co-workers who see the cold drinks sitting on the cold bar counter and they won't touch any of it. But I can't wait forever in order to start making them so I have to go to the cold bar and start those drinks as well and then as soon as I do that then all of a sudden somebody jumps in on hot bar and does a hot drink. It's just really frustrating when they do that because they literally wait till I have to walk away from hot bar for any reason and then they make a beeline straight for hot bar
honeybeebi9 points1y ago
with the way my store is set up, hot bar is where *all* the stickers print so once someone jumps in my way, i’m basically kicked off of bar and they’re leading
Responsible_Snow71093 points1y ago
Oh no thats exactly how mine is too. Hot bar has 2 printers....1 for mobile and deliveries and 1 for cafe and one is sitting on top of the other. And its in a corner on the bar and so if someone jumps on there, i have to wait next to them at the other espresso machine as if im not on main bar lol
aspiringgrandpa3 points1y ago
lol i’m the opposite if i’m free and see some cold bar drinks i SNATCH those fraps
Responsible_Snow71091 points1y ago
Lol well then i would love to have u at my store lol cuz a few select people at my store see cold drinks on the cold bar and they dont touch it. Then wen i go to make it, then all of a sudden theyll decide to go to hot bar and make a drink there
lee_templeton2 points1y ago
oh my god the same exact thing happens to me i turn around from cold bar and someone is on my bar “starting” all of my drinks but really i don’t know where they left off and now my drinks are out of order
Responsible_Snow71092 points1y ago
Yep its annoying and they dont communicate it with me either. They just hop on. Then i finish up with the cold drinks and go back to hot bar and then they move off and no words. There have been times where a barista was on register. If its really slow and no customers at the register, same thing happens where I'll put cold drinks on cold bar so if anyone sees it before i get to it, then they can get them started. But they dont move away from register. Then when it comes time for me to do those cold drinks, ill go do em and that register barista will hop right on to hot bar.
When i first started over 2 years ago, there was a barista who was there a while and i was put on bar once and i forget exactly how far in i was at this point but definitely less than a year. Anyway im on hot bar. The barista comes up and pulls stickers from the printer and she does a drink and hands it off. Well the girl that was waiting got her drink but her friend was still waiting for her drink since it was in the same one order. This barista does the 1 girls drink and gives it to her and does not communicate anything to me and those stickers were not even in order. There were other stickers she had pulled put before that but she just randomly chose to do the 1 girls drink and went to the back to finish doing dishes. Like how about u tell me what ur doing especially since i was not tenured yet and like if ur guna pull stickers, atleast do em in order cuz if u dont, then ill be left with getting the angry stares wen u go back to doing dishes
lee_templeton2 points1y ago
our DTO is right next to bar 1 and i would always turn around and see her starting drinks the SECOND i walked away and then i would come back and hover over her because she was in my way. i would come back and the same that happened to you is what they would do. they would pull a bunch of stickers and then just stick them on the machine until they came across one that was easy. i’m glad that this doesn’t only happen to me because i felt like they were trying to target me or something. i don’t really know them that well and they still see me as new because i don’t really work with them so i don’t have to courage to say anything. hopefully they’ll back off or i’ll finally be able to tell them to knock it off because it’s annoying and makes it confusing

People who have 7 million drinks to make but refuse help....like ok just struggle while I stand here
honeybeebi15 points1y ago
ngl i do this sometimes
aee787 points1y ago
I'm a shift and I had a barista put herself on bar (Swapped with another barista while I was on break). Then when I came back and had our ticket times had tripled and I go over and they're like I got this. NO, you absolutely do not. Go back to X. Then they started to argue with me.
Just no.
milliondollargrave02 [OP]6 points1y ago
ngl i had to read this so many times to understand what you meant LMAOOO but nah i’m the person who just never accepts help unless people just start taking stickers/cups for me. i personally won’t ask for help tho and if it’s offered i just say i’m fine. but i also won’t like refuse it, if someone starts takin cups or drinks to help me i just let them
Responsible_Snow71093 points1y ago
I have this coworker who been with Starbucks for like 5 years. Whenever she's on bar, she hates it when certain Baristas pull stickers to help but doesn't mind when other Baristas do it and it's kind of really messed up because all the Baristas at my store are pretty fast at least the ones that she works with in the mornings. Anyway the one time I was on hot bar and this five-year coworker was on cold bar supporting me. She had a bunch of cold drinks lined up on her Cold bar counter and I had even more hot drinks lined up on my hot bar counter. Then my coworker who was on register is really fast at making drinks and she asked if there was any quick drinks that she can grab like any iced coffees and my coworker who was supporting me on cold bar said no it's okay. And then I pulled the sticker for an iced coffee and just gave it to my coworker who was on register and my other co-worker who was on cold bar did not say a word because she can't. She always comes in and pulls stickers whenever other people are on bar but gets annoyed when it happens to her and has never stated her preference as to how she feels or why she feels this way or that way. So everybody else is left to think that she's just being rude and judgy or watever u wana call it

Why was the register partner making drinks?
Responsible_Snow71093 points1y ago
I really have no idea because there's about two or three Partners at my store that do that and it's really frustrating because then there's other people that might be waiting for a quick drink as well and then they're going to be like why did that person get it before me and why couldn't the register person get it for me just like they got it for that person. It just causes chaos and confusion and I really don't like it. They're supposed to wait at the handoff area so the drinks can be made in order in the queue
vanillaiceez25 points1y ago
When people take stickers off my bar one after the other and then don’t even tell me when they’ve made a drink I’ve already started.
Responsible_Snow710910 points1y ago
Yep happens at my store all the time too and it's really frustrating. I'll be on bar and there will be somebody on register and if the customer at register orders an iced coffee or a cold brew, my coworker on register will grab the iced coffee or cold brew for the customer but won't tell me and then I'll go to make it when I get to the sticker and then they'll be like "oh i already made that"....k thanks for communicating like a normal grown ass adult🙃
sweet-seat21 points1y ago
#4 was a rule from our district manager - they cared about drive times way too much. and it made more sense for dto to wipe it down real quick than to stop drive bar's flow
milliondollargrave02 [OP]-5 points1y ago
i can understand why someone would think that but, it still pisses me off tbh. like just don’t be messy when makin drinks, or if it’s messy, pour it into a new cup or double cup it or something idk i just hate when people put leaking cups on the handoff lolll
sweet-seat12 points1y ago
yeah, all that is time wasted according to our district manager. during peak (for us) there's a DTO and DTR. DTO is literally planted and unable to do anything but take orders and wipe cups as they pass them to DTR.
"don't be messy" lmao. because people purposely do it.
edited bc i didn't finish my sentence in the first part*
milliondollargrave02 [OP]-5 points1y ago
noooo i’m not saying that. it definitely saves time during peak and you’re right, when there’s someone planted there on DTO it makes a lot more sense. i just have partners at my store who are notoriously messy even when it’s slow. that’s kinda more of what i was talkin ab. i know things can get chaotic, especially during peak, and accidents happen and things can get messy. i’m more so referring to the partners in my store who leave it messy even when it’s slow because they just don’t care
sweet-seat3 points1y ago
ohhhhh, okay. okay. no, that definitely makes sense! i assumed you were referring only to peak and that was an error on my end. yeah, outside of peak, it's a lot easier to avoid the mess / clean up after yourself.
Perfect-Leadership5817 points1y ago
i have a couple partners who will pull all my stickers and put them on cups, i get that it may be helpful but it ends up crowing my bar and also overwhelms me. THEN they just walk away :’) like what was even the point
Old_Obligation_79612 points1y ago
honestly had to tell my svv to stop doing that cause it was super confusing for me, she was trying to prep my cups but i just said i know but the sequencing gets messed up for me when that happens
Perfect-Leadership581 points1y ago
ye i’ve had to tell people to stop, it was mostly no problem except one of my SSV’s thinks that anytime you say something not positive you hate her so :^)
theimposteramongus13 points1y ago
The two teenager i just worked with who use the headsets as their personal communication and continued talking while i had a costumer at driverthru
BookDragon19962 points1y ago
Yeah that stuff drives me crazy
redmercedes8711 points1y ago
Pretty much everything that annoys me is the opposite of this lmao. Leaving out your milk during a rush is essential, but I guess it'd be annoying if it's in the way. Also putting stickers over the boxes really doesn't matter imo. Also, we don't get paid enough to not good over 10 minutes for our 10, lol
milliondollargrave02 [OP]5 points1y ago
that’s valid! we all get annoyed by different things, and i understand leaving milks out during peak or a rush i just hate it when there’s no reason for it to be out but that’s just me
Jaded_Fun_71333 points1y ago
Yeah I do it during peak at least with oat and 2% since those are our 2 most used, but when it’s slow and there’s milks out i need them away it bugs me so much 😂
mrcupcake189 points1y ago
As of recently? People who just jump in and help me without telling me why their doing it or what their making which throws me off or it’s like only two drinks and they are easy and they start helping me make them like dude get away let me work!
Bhaisaab869 points1y ago
1) sometimes you have to disrespect the siren (place the sticker right over that bitch)
2) oat milk is gone after 2-3 drinks max
3) I hate that
4) I hate that
5) I hate that
6) I hate that. Especially when I iterate it over the headset when the customer is still at the speaker. And DTO ignores me, so the customer drives away
7) I HATE that
8) I hate that
9) I hate that
10) I hate that
milliondollargrave02 [OP]3 points1y ago
u know honestly i understand disrespect the siren. and also yes w the milk thing i understand leaving them out during peak or a rush especially oat milk because it’s gone in .2 seconds
Bhaisaab863 points1y ago
I used to have a DM who would scold people for putting the stickers anywhere near or on the siren (cups and pastry/warming bags). She’d always yell “🤬 RESPECT THE SIREN” 🙄 like okay bitch 🤣
milliondollargrave02 [OP]5 points1y ago
at that point i’d purposely put it on too LMAO and i’m a ssv and some of these DMs just suck
Bhaisaab862 points1y ago
I’m tellin ya, a lot of them are power tripping. That same DM once yelled, like *actually* yelled, at me during peak with full staff and a cafe full of customers. Because I put a warmed banana bread into a brown pastry bag. “Warming bags are for anything warmed, that’s why they’re called warming bags”
_circuts7 points1y ago
People who just pull my stickers without asking/letting me know. I know theyre trying to help but it throws me off and makes me kinda angry for no reason... But it's more a pet peeve is suppose.
milliondollargrave02 [OP]2 points1y ago
valid.
PiscesQueen245 points1y ago
Im sorry but reaching out for milks constantly fucks my back up , I feel we go thru 2% enough to leave it out
Twentysixounces5 points1y ago
When the RTD&E lunch boxes have the expiration date sticker on top of the bar code.
MeeganKook5 points1y ago
Agreed to alllll!🤝
CorpBrig4 points1y ago
People who barrel into drive thru at breakneck speeds only to take 5 minutes just to order the most basic thing imaginable
Professor_Sqi4 points1y ago
People
yvesnings4 points1y ago
Being on bar the whole day because other partners aren’t as experienced and we are understaffed. It feels unfair to me. Yesterday, I was on bar and I had a full shift. I don’t stress or anything but yesterday GOT ME. Everyone in the drive-thru ordering 5+ drinks (most of being frappuccinos) and DTO person just stands there without helping because they’re “new” but I think if you’ve been with the company for at least 4 months, you should be somewhat comfortable to be on bar or at least offer a hand.
milliondollargrave02 [OP]2 points1y ago
dude i feel you. before i became an SSV they alwaysssss had me on bar. sometimes i still get scheduled barista shifts like once a week and they always just throw me on bar the whole time and it’s so draining. like at least move everyone around every once in a while
aspiringgrandpa1 points1y ago
omg are you me bc i got hired in january but i’m the only new partner who knows how to bar without help and i was on solo bar all day yesterday it was ROUGH and ofc this one regular came in expecting his 8 fraps 5 minutes after he ordered 😭
PoemConscious44041 points1y ago
Been at my store for 4 months and haven’t been on bar once. Either they think i’m incompetent or just AMAZING at front register & DTR 😭😭😭
Adeptness-Lucky3 points1y ago
Your list and my list are 100% the same. This, plus talking too loud about personal things on front of customers.
80sserialkiller3 points1y ago
ok the stickers on the boxes thing has been getting me lately. like i’m on dto/dtr tryin to see what drink this is and i gotta turn it all the way 360° to find the sticker
Responsible_Snow71093 points1y ago
Oh my God I had two grown-ass adult men come into my store today. The one guy ordered first and I had to ask him his size because apparently here on planet Earth there is only one specific size. /s
Anyway I asked him the size that he wanted and he told me. Then his buddy ordered and I still had to ask him what size he wanted as if he didn't freaking get the hint from me asking his friend what size he wanted.
milliondollargrave02 [OP]7 points1y ago
it’s so annoying like bro pls just say what size u want??? idc if they small/medium/large over tall/grande/venti but it’s like?? everytime i’ve gone to like idk chick fil a or mcdonald’s or whatever else i always just say what size i want like “medium sprite” or whatever else. idk why people don’t use common sense when ordering
Responsible_Snow71093 points1y ago
Exactly! Like other places have different sized cups as well. McDonald's or Wawa or Burger King or Wendy's or Chick-fil-A or any other food and drink establishment. One of these days I'm just going to not ask them what size and see how many people go to the handoff area and ask for a bigger size because hopefully that'll teach them too freaking State whatever size they want while ordering. And one time this one lady had ordered a hot drink and I asked her what size and she said all annoyed "i dont kno, regular" and i said "we have a few different sizes...small or medium or large" .....this lady literally responds again with "i dont know...watever the regular is".....like I know a bunch of people might think that oh the regular is a grande because that's what they show on all the drink pictures on the menu. But no I know how these people work. If I end up choosing the grande size for them, they're going to end up getting there a drink at the handoff area and then they're going to be like oh this is too small and it's not what I expected. No i know better. I mean shit, we've even had people who tell me what size they want at the register and then they get their size drink that they asked for at the handoff area and then they claim they wanted a bigger size. So I know better than to pick a size for them myself just because they said "regular". Ur guna tell me with ur own mouth, ur own words which size u want so im not at fault for anything wen u decide to lose ur mind at the hand off area
milliondollargrave02 [OP]4 points1y ago
when people say “regular” or they drive off and don’t give me a size even tho i asked i just give them grande and let them deal with it 😁😁
Responsible_Snow71093 points1y ago
Lol see i would do that if i was at a drive thru store but i work at a cafe/mobile store so they aint leaving that register until they tell me from their own mouth wat size they want. But like i said lmao we have had people tell us wat size they want at the register such as grande and they get their drink at the hand off area and say "it was supposed to be a venti" lol so its a lose lose situation sometimes 😭
Intelligent-Ad12732 points1y ago
When I’m busting my ass on cs trying to prep/ wash dishes and I have to come out of the back to refill something while the front and warming person is just standing there 🙃 we have an understanding that if front/warming isn’t busy, they are also a cs and should handle restocking up front so cs can get the team ready to close
KiwiBeginning42 points1y ago
I really dislike when i'm planted and enjoying myself and then a barista (or multiple) comes in for their shift who's really close to the manager so they get to choose what they want to do & switch spots with me and then i'm just used to hop around and do whatever needs to be done
lilmissambersue2 points1y ago
Hahahahaha I'm still kinda new so I don't wanna piss anyone off grabbing tickets after they tell me they don't need help. But I'm like dude, I can make the cold ones at least! Lol
milliondollargrave02 [OP]3 points1y ago
some people get really picky ab their stickers, usually, if partners in my store are picky ab it i just kinda am like okay i won’t pull your stickers or anything but if you need help just lmk. i try to offer the support and let them know i can help, but if they don’t want it it’s up to them. i just try to let them know the help is available if they change their mind
sassybarista981 points1y ago
Y’all would hate my store then as a ssv I get it like I can’t with a chaotic store aka my store
milliondollargrave02 [OP]0 points1y ago
i’m a ssv and my store is the 2nd busiest in all of texas, oklahoma, and part of louisiana 😅😅 it’s chaos and i just get annoyed pretty easily, but i typically don’t express it tbh
