Am I supposed to find my own coverage when I’m out with covid?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SomeComputer2992
I’ve been positive since last Tuesday with covid and I’ve told my manager that and she told me that I have a 10 day isolation period. But for a couple of shifts I was supposed to work the shift in charge calls me and ask where I was and I told them I have covid which makes me extremely confused because I thought my manager was supposed to find coverage for those shifts.

People thought I was an an ass but in 4 years with the bux I never got 1 shift I called out for covered because I always had a valid reason for not coming

your SM should be getting them covered, but they also aren't allowed to disclose your personal health information -- including that you have COVID. So I'm not surprised you're getting calls. not everyone knows how to handle that.

Yes that’s true but the thing is that she’s not finding coverage for my shifts I’m supposed to work, so the shift in charge thinks I’m a no call no show, and it’s just a lack of communication with the manger which gets me annoyed

You're not responsible for coverage. I'm pretty sure I am out with Covid. I am vaccinated. We have to wait 10 days? I've been out since Friday.

Ok that is what I thought, and my manger told me it was 10 days and I’ve heard other places were 5 days so just double check with ur manager

K. Its 5. I am going to try to get a covid test to be sure. Just trying to find one.

Some managers are just really bad at communication. They’re not actually allowed to give out personal health information like who has Covid and who doesn’t, but I’ve had managers who just won’t even tell anyone that someone called out sick and won’t be there. No written notes, no text messages, nothing said in person. If that happened then maybe your shift sup thought you were late because no one told them what was happening. I’ve had managers who would run shifts and just not tell me that they just didn’t give anyone their breaks and then I would come on the floor and everyone needed 30s and 10s all at once. Some just really suck at communication.

So i also just had covid for the first time. I called my manager and told i was very symptomatic them and sent them my positive test. The manager in that moment needs to physically take you off the schedule. So your name should be on none of the daily schedules. You will still be paid for all your scheduled shifts during your 5 day isolation. Then if you have symptoms still after those five consecutive days you will be paid for any additional shift up to 5 shifts total (including the 5 day isolation period). Then you have to use your own sick time. At no point do you have to find coverage if you are still ill, symptomatic, and unable to work. If you somehow have like one of the life threatening bouts of covid that require hospitalization you can apply for a LOA and unemployment.

this happened to me too at my first ever job. i called and told my manager i needed to quarantine and she said ok (back when it was two full weeks), and then i was called by other managers asking where i was. i was like… you’re telling me she scheduled me for TWO WEEKS knowing i’d be out?? tbh pay it no mind. they’ll get it covered (or won’t, but you don’t owe them anything) and your health is the priority obviously

Are you in California? All other states should be 5 days now. If your out for longer then 5 days you will need to use sick time. If you don’t have sick time and technically clear to come back then you need to find your own coverage.
