My barista trainer made sure to tell us whenever we clean a whip lid to ALWAYS make sure you put the white gasket back. As they explained it, you don't want to make it harder for the customer support to prep your shit when you inevitably run out in the middle of peak

If it helps, without the white piece, the top sits down lower, basically touching the canister. With it, there’s a hair tie width gap between the lid and canister. This trick helped me prevent A LOT of future explosions.

I did that but it sprayed all over one of our elderly partners, i felt so bad. It was all over her hair and she insisted it was ok but i feel like she holds resentment for it to this day. That incident happened over a year ago. I will not forget the customers staring at me as if i had killed someone that day. Traumatized so I check every time now, cheers.

This is why I train all of my trainees to put the gasket on in the deep sink. If it goes off, most of it hits the basin and not all over the store.
