Always. Why wouldn’t you? Whether its preference or allergy, why risk it? If you’re not paying attention to milk subs you need to change that real quick before you potentially put someone in danger or at least have them have a tummy ache. Yes there’s no guarantee of no cross contamination but why are you purposely ignoring milk subs?

yes lol even to the point where if i notice at the end of a drink that i got the milk wrong i will completely start over because i know what it’s like to have the wrong milk in your drink. it’s undrinkable

If you’re moving so fast that you’re putting the wrong milk in drinks you need to slow down

yes of course….. what is the point of have having milk subs dairy or non dairy if you aren’t going to pay attention. and like the first reply said you never know someone’s reason for getting a milk sub. but yes if you aren’t paying attention then you really need to start. also if people are paying extra 70 centers for non dairy of course imma use their milk sub.

This is like asking “ Are you actually competent at your job?”
Have_Donut 14 points 1y ago
Absolutely. You can literally kill someone with that mistake.
Minimum_Class_8132 7 points 1y ago

I never ignore plant milk subs when it's busy. When I finish a drink and check over the sticker again and there is a plant milk instead of cow milk, I dump it and restart. The only time I ignore the sub is when it's nonfat, 2% or whole. And I only ignore it when I finish the drink with 2% and the customer wanted nonfat or whole. I feel kinda bad when I do this and I know it's wrong, but when it's SUPER busy and you're drinking regular ol' milk, I let it slide on the occasion. I also never sub sugar free vanilla for regular and same for the sugarless sweeteners.

Hey! Barista here, I just wanted to chime in and say please don’t ignore nonfat. My body literally cannot process fat so it is really important that when I order nonfat, I get it. It can still be a health risk.

Yes, ofc. Someone could be allergic, lactose intolerant, etc…

If it is something that can cause harm to someone I always pay extra attention to it (decaf, milks, sugar free, etc.)

UMMM YES???

i take dairy and allergies incredibly seriously. ESPECIALLY since that tiktok came out with the guy calling the workers slurs and throwing a smoothie at the them bc there was a peanut cross contamination. and im always on peoples asses about using the almond milk labeled tools and im always the one sanitizing them when they get misused. not only are you risking someone’s life and safety, but otherwise you’re just making the drink incorrectly if you use the wrong milk. plus it doesn’t take any extra effort 90% of the time to do the proper milk. phew

Oh yeah, especially after seeing one of our baristas give the wrong milk to our shift. It can be a deadly mistake but also with extreme allergies Starbucks cannot guarantee that there isn’t cross contamination milks gets steamed in the same pitchers and so do our fraps

Absolutely. I’ve had my entire day ruined by someone accidentally using regular milk and I don’t wanna do that to a customer.
