Does anyone else think the attendance/ point system is total nonsense!? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MemesandSpeech
So now my manager is starting to take her job more seriously (After a whopping 4 months!) and recently we talked, and she told me of this point system (Apparently, they only do it in NYC) in where if you reach 7 or 10, you'll get fired! She told me that I have 4 or 6 points because I came late twice (I can accept that) But honestly, it's total b.s!

(You come late = 2 points, call out = 2 point, No call/ no show = 5 points) Like it's bad enough we have to smile when dealing with bad customers while being FAST 24/7 but now this point system in which you can get fired cause you came a little late or forgot to write on the book, WOW!

Honestly now I don't think sticking for the free ASU is worth anymore of this nonsense....

We’re you made aware of the point system BEFORE you started getting points against you?? If not report them to partner ethics! Also you shouldn’t get points for calling out!

No I was not, she told me right when I was resting (I juggle too jobs, SB at opening. 2nd at around till midnight. I know I'm pushing my body for doing 2 jobs with lil proper sleep & rest but I need income for an apartment in NYC.) My old store did the point system and I had cause I showed late once and a no show.

But hearing this today and hearing I got a possible 4/6 points already, I'm thinking of taking a L.O.A or put my two weeks and forget the ASU plan.

14 years, 6 home stores, shifts covered at too many stores to count, spanning two states. And I’ve never heard of anything like this. This is actually insane and you should definitely call ethics.

Wtf? A call out should not be considered points lol. Like they want you to come in if you’re sick?

Plus how “late” were you? Cause with how understaffed starbucks’ tend to be, they can’t afford to fire employees for being 5 min late 😅

my manager is a suck up for my dm and she gave a green bean a write up for being 3 mins late. i fucking hate it here.

my dm came to visit and ever since then she’s been editing peoples hours and sending people home to reduce labor costs. i think it’s stupid bc we aren’t selling a lot bc people know we are always out of product. even today we are out of wm and chai. i wouldn’t be surprised if customers just stopped showing up bc we are usually out of stuff, i would too, but people have bills to pay and idgaf about stupid labor hours. i was scheduled this way and am entitled to those hours

Omg that sucks I’m sorry.

It’s just weird cause I don’t even think my Starbucks is super understaffed but I know they’d never fire someone for being a couple minutes late (unless it was excessive) bc we need people. If anything I’m just constantly being asked to extend my hours/cover shift and I just finished my 30 days 😅

I think it’s so silly when companies do this and make calling out the same number of points as being late. so if I think I might be late I’m just going to call in and leave you down a person because its the same penalty anyways. that makes no sense.

but I agree with what someone else posted, they can’t start adding up points before they’ve told you about the system.

i’m transferring to a story in nyc and this is the first time i’m hearing about a point attendance system 💀 if this is true i’m not looking forward to it.. total bs u get 2 for calling out.

They do this at Walmart too, wish my store did this 🤣 though I don’t think call outs with reason should count, being late def should. My actions have consequences?!?!! Nonsense!
