Congratulations! Quite an accomplishment and a lot of hard work. Well done.

Thank you! Hard work pays off! Bring on the mext challenge!

Didn't even realize this was happening. Guess they don't invite licensed store baristas anymore
PercyGabriel1129 15 points 1y ago
My store (a corporate one) never got any news of this either actually. I'm kinda sad because I wasn't eligible last year but I would've been this year

It's open to licensed stores, your operator should of let you know.

Congrats!! So great to know people are still taking pride in the art of coffee. 👏👏

I placed 3rd in our district a few years ago(pre covid). It was so much fun to participate.

We definitely didn't get any info this year that they were even running the event. Totally bummed to find out that we didn't have a chance to participate. My latte art has come a long way (not perfect but.. better😉) since I last participated.

Again, great job.

I love making coffee. I love talking about coffee. And being acknowledged for it is just the cherry on top!

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be able to participate next time! I'm in Europe, so it's definitely different xx
cpv_91 2 points 1y ago
I'm sure being in Europe gives you a different perspective. I've been a few times and people there are definitely different in there interactions and expectations. There is the sense of entitlement that we have to deal with here daily. I found my interactions in stores, restaurants, and cafes always pleasant and cordial regardless of the country I was visiting.

I'm really hoping we see changes soon. I miss the company this used to be. The coffee culture is sorely missing. I'd love to turn the clock back at least 16 years to the time when we talked the talk and walked the walk. I try really hard to deliver a crafted quality beverage each and every time and I know most of the time it's appreciated but the negative clientele can really suck the joy from this job.

Out of curiosity, where in Europe are you?
_shitzngigglez [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Ah look, no matter where in the world you are there's always gonna be some rude ass entitled customer. Unfortunately that's part of the job. I just smile at them and then we all give out and laugh at the back hahahah kill them with kindness as I like to say!

I'm in Ireland!

By what I read on this sub, working in sbux in America sounds awful. You are paid shit money, treated like slaves, little to no work ethic.

For me the experience so far has been amazing. I love this job, I've been supervisor for two years and got a pay rise twice already and a third one is coming. Yeah, it's still stressful, what job isn't? But my hard work is paying off and it's showing.
cpv_91 1 points 1y ago
That's amazing. Ireland is on my bucket list. I was in London when the lock down started here and had to cut my trip short, planning on returning soon. Can't wait to plan a trip to Ireland and hopefully Scotland, too.

As for sbux, I try to always kill them with kindness, only way to survive. Lol. Thankfully I love seeing and interacting with the loyal regulars and it's not like we don't get non-regulars who are nice, as well. And you're right, the work ethic is missing in many. I was raised with one and passed that onto my children. I've been at this a longggg time and I've tried really hard to not lose the love. Granted the last 2 years have been hard on that front. As I said, keeping 🤞that changes come to revitalize the work environment and hopefully bring back some of what made me love this job and work place so much at the start.

Nice! What is the barista championship?
_shitzngigglez [OP] 2 points 1y ago
It's just a competition of baristas! You get to show off your skills, latte art and coffee knowledge
OneRoseDark 9 points 1y ago
Wait. When was this? I was just talking to a supervisor last week about how I hadn't seen anything about the Barista Championship this year.
hystericalbirbe 3 points 1y ago
Yeah when is it? I thought it started in July, that’s when we had our district champs last year
_shitzngigglez [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I'm in Ireland so it's probably different from country to country!
Pylon-Cam 6 points 1y ago
Oh nice — congratulations!!! I won my district’s barista championship last year.

And then they canceled the regionals due to the Covid variant that was spreading around at the time (delta I think?).
_shitzngigglez [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Thank you! I've got the regionals in July. I'm not confident enough to pass that but we'll see!
Dangitkayla 1 points 1y ago

HelenAngel 2 points 1y ago

EyesOpenedWide31 2 points 1y ago

_shitzngigglez [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Apparently so!
-Zispy 2 points 1y ago
Did it already pass? I was looking forward to doing it this year. I was begged to do it last year but couldn’t lol
uwumoment 1 points 1y ago
my district never does these anymore, but the last time they did it, they didn’t even get anyone from my store to participate, which sucks. i wish i could do it now
biggestsaddest 1 points 1y ago
I opened this thinking your accomplishment was putting in your 2 weeks
_shitzngigglez [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Nah, won't be leaving anytime soon lol I work in a sbux in Ireland and it's such a different environment. I feel sorry for you guys working in America. You get treated like shit.
