Roastery in NYC (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by smol-kittten
I’m considering transferring to a reserve/roastery in NYC. If anyone has any experience transferring from a regular cafe store to a reserve/roastery Id love you know what the process was (did you have to interview?) and if you enjoy it more or less. Also, if anyone know what the pay is for baristas in nyc at a reserve/roastery I am curious.

I’m not a reserve partner but I’m pretty sure you can’t just transfer. It’s a whole separate application process since there are so many baristas from around the country/world trying to get the same spot as a thousand other applicants.

In my experience of having been to both the Seattle and Chicago roasteries, expect absolute nonstop customers from open-close and having very little free time. The baristas didn’t seem super rushed but they were moving at a pretty fast pace. Probably feels similar to drive bar at a decently busy drive thru store.

I’d assume they’re looking for people with many years of cafe experience, latte art, bartending, baking, and/or coffee roasting as a prerequisite which usually isn’t taught at a modern Starbucks. I wish you good luck though!

Also be mindful that the NYC roastery asks your previous managers how you were as a Barista. The application process is exclusive and sometimes invite only if you meet there standards. Plus the NYC Roastery unionized.
