Oof this one grinds my gears. Or they’ll order a black coffee, so you don’t offer cream or sugar, then they get to the window and AFTER you’ve completed the transaction and hand everything out they go, ‘oh can I get cream and sugar?’ 😑 no, no you cannot
barkerglass 13 points 1y ago
As the husband of a 12 year Starbucks employee who loves cofee but never orders from Starbucks:

Coffee = water poured over ground beans. Inform them of the roast options.

Size: Small = the smallest you have. Large = the largest you have. Medium = something inbetween.

If they don’t ask for cream or sugar don’t give them any. If they do ask give them some.
NiteLiteOfficial 9 points 1y ago
yeah i don’t use venti grande or tall, i know what they mean when customers ask for them, but i always played it safe and assumed the customer would either be stubborn or unaware of our size names, and i’d just call them large small or medium. a lot of people think they are the only customer who orders a coffee and they order it small sized with no cream or sugar as the dark roast. but i was getting hundreds of customers a day. there’s no “average” or “typical” coffee. everyone who asks for a coffee has a slightly different drink in mind.
iiiimagery 9 points 1y ago
Yup! People say they want a few sugars, I ask how many. I've gotten ranges from 2-11 so I always ask
dontgiveah00t 7 points 1y ago
I literally hate when people say an “average” or “regular” amount when I ask how much sugar they want. I see people who want *half* a packet to 18 packets!!!

I used to never offer cream or sugar for pikes but since they took away the condiment bar it slows us down too much since we don’t have enough counter space to keep it by hand off.
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 1y ago
Yea lol people will always ask me for a few packets of sugar. I will always ask exactly how many because I want to give them the correct amount that they want for that I can just give it to them and go back to making the millions of drinks in queue. I'm not about to just give them "a couple" sugar packets just for them to ask for more and then I would have to grab more. But one time I had this guy at the handoff area ask me for a sugar packet. He didn't specify a specific amount. He just asked for a sugar packet. So I went to go grab him one and I tried to hand it to him and he said no I want raw sugar. So I go grab raw sugar and hand that to him and then he asks for a specific amount after that. So I'm like walking back and forth when he could have just told me the type of sugar that he wants and the amount that he wants
ThatBichAlex 3 points 1y ago
This works in theory but if you don’t ask about cream and sugar. People will drink it and be like “where’s is my cream and sugar”. Prompting questions is half the job lol
barkerglass 2 points 1y ago
I drink my coffee black so I don’t know the cream and sugar perspective of the uneducated customer. Going back to the original comment though I have 100% asked for a “medium coffee” and was made to feel like a dumb ass. It turned me off from ordering from Starbucks again. Since then my wife has shown me what to order or will just do it for me but that first encounter still just has me choosing McDonald’s or a gas station instead of Starbucks. I’m sure I’m an easier customer than most though. If someone says they want a “medium coffee” then gets all “welllll actuallllly I wanted this and this” is an ass hole. When I asked for that I didn’t know what “coffees” were offered and literally would have been happy with any drip coffee in the world in any cup that wasn’t tiny or huge. And was made to feel dumb for ordering it.
Responsible_Snow7109 3 points 1y ago
Yeah nobody should make you feel dumb for saying medium instead of Grande. I had this one older Barista that worked at my store. I don't know he was probably somewhere around 70. But whenever a customer would order a tall or Grande or whatever, he would say "so u want a tall?" And so on. I would just always think in my head like man you don't have to correct them. Just let it go and ring them up for what they want
ThatBichAlex 2 points 1y ago
Yeah, I’m sorry someone did that. I definitely like helping people find the drink they want because why else would you be spending that kind of money on coffee. Having a knowledge of all the drinks and helping someone find their favorite drink are my favorite parts of the job!

had a lady come through for a mobile order in DT, said she’s picking up and also wanted to “order a coffee,” then proceeded to order a venti caramel crunch 😔☹️ ma’am that is a milkshake
Responsible_Snow7109 8 points 1y ago
"Ooo im in a bad mood when i dont have my morning coffee. Can i get a caramel frappuccino?" 😭
Responsible_Snow7109 5 points 1y ago
Oh and speaking of Frappuccinos, lmao seriously this one lady came in one day and my manager rang her up at the register. The lady ordered a handful of things. First was "can i get 2 venti frappuccinos?" ....my manager said "what flavor?" And the woman literally all she said was "i dont know" ....while scanning the menu above. Like what does she expect my manager to say after she says "i dont know"...like do u wana kno? I dont get it. So my manager asks if she wants coffee Frappuccinos and the lady said "yea i guess. Thats fine"...... I feel sorry to whoever she was taking those Frappuccinos to but at the same time I kind of don't because the people that wanted a frappuccino should have told her what flavor.
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 1y ago
Lmao I was on bar one time and this middle-aged husband and wife came in and I greet them while I'm making drinks and the guy literally walks up to the side of my bar and all he says is "coffee"....thats it. Nothing else.
soundfanatic 41 points 1y ago
my favorites are "can i get a grande venti" and "trenti"
the_dizzy_fool 28 points 1y ago
someone came through my drive thru once and asked for a "triantula" pink drink
kadulee 6 points 1y ago
IM IN TEARS
SelocAvrap 28 points 1y ago
Can I get a trenti strawberry acorn and a ventay megan dragonfly?

(These were actual words I've heard people say in the drive thru)
AuntieRia1128 [OP] 12 points 1y ago
We have had people try to say mango dragon fruit so fast that they end up saying “maggot” 🤣🤣
darkwolf523 5 points 1y ago
You almost made me die by smoking and laughing at this. 😂 😂
dontgiveah00t 5 points 1y ago
We get mangan/megan for mango all the time! And oatmeal for oat milk. And occasionally machaca for matcha 🤣
ConditionFirst2522 2 points 1y ago
We get oatmeal instead of Oatmilk all the time 😭😂
AuntieRia1128 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
My coworker used to read it back and say, “and one oatmeal…”, and they would be like “what?!” And then my coworker would try to educate them on the difference between oat milk and oatmeal, and how it’s hard for us to tell which someone might be asking for… to me it was all too much work, and eventually this coworker realized that too and stopped… but sometimes if I want to be sassy, I do ask if they want an oatmeal, even when I know they don’t…

Can I get a grande regular?

A grande regular WHAT? MOTHERFUCKER!

I hate THIS customer.. I always answer..

'What would that be, we have many options hot or Iced Coffee, cold brew, nitro cold brew. You'll need to be a little more specific.'

🤦
Joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh1 6 points 1y ago
90% of the time it's hot coffee.
cpv_91 12 points 1y ago
Yes, you're right but I'm sick and tired of these tools treating us like shit and feeling like the correct response to 'good morning' is to bark 'grande regular' (clarification.. I work in cafe).

Fuck them.. They can take the time to speak in complete and POLITE sentences or they get total sass from me EACH AND EVERY TIME!
Responsible_Snow7109 5 points 1y ago
Oh yea ive said "hi how are u" to a customer who walked up to the register one time and the next thing that came out of their mouth was "umm yeaa can i get a....."
Joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh1 1 points 1y ago
Well to be devil's advocate, they aren't there for conversation, they're there for coffee.. I always try and converse but if they aren't feeling it then I totally understand 🤷‍♂️ I have my moods where I dont feel social too.. I just don't feel like not wanting conversation should be taken as offense or treating you like shit.
cpv_91 3 points 1y ago
Being polite has zero to do with having a conversation. Complete sentences are a matter of common courtesy. I am not a robot nor a mind reader nor should I be expected to respond to barked commands. If this is how you treat people when you are on the other side of the counter then I guess you feel this is acceptable behavior.
Responsible_Snow7109 3 points 1y ago
Lmao i sometimes get people saying whatever size and then this:

"Can i get a grande decaf" ... I always have to say "a decaf latte? Decaf Americano? Decaf coffee? Decaf cappuccino?" Sometimes they say can I get a grande half decaf and I have to repeat all the half decaf type of drinks that we can make which is the same as listed above. Sometimes it'll be hot coffees that they're referring to but I've had times where they were referring to americanos or lattes. I always facepalm in my head during these interactions lol
cpv_91 3 points 1y ago
Same.. It's neverending
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 1y ago
Lol sure is😳
rmshilpi 9 points 1y ago
How long before someone on TikTok actually tries to make a drink with this name?
Jaded_Fun_7133 9 points 1y ago

lilkiosk 8 points 1y ago
Steamed ice bruh
cyndypham 6 points 1y ago
someone came in and asked for a grande flat white with 4 ounces of milk. i look at her as she walked out and she was weighing the drink in her hand and made a wtf face LMAO i swear customers don’t know what they’re ordering most times 😭
12nipples 6 points 1y ago
I had a lady get a venti iced coffee with hazelnut and vanilla and then asked for the exact same thing but with no coffee 🤕
Responsible_Snow7109 1 points 1y ago
😑 lol
Tisroero 6 points 1y ago
Eh, wasn't accurate until they brought up the steamed ice.
Coffeelover713 4 points 1y ago
A customer came in and asked for a puppy cuppy
RubySapphireSage 4 points 1y ago
they will order this and I will asked what size and they will ignore me blatantly and continue with 3 other items .
vincentcaligione318 4 points 1y ago
except they’ll forget to say the size and if it’s iced or hot. the things i say the most at work are “hot or iced and what size?” like how tf do u forget that
Responsible_Snow7109 3 points 1y ago
Right? Lmao like every single food and drink establishment you go to has different sizes.
mrcupcake18 4 points 1y ago
DUDE like honestly! 😂
cpv_91 1 points 1y ago
Constantly. Covid and 2 yrs of working from home has turned some of these people into completely socially dysfunctional humans.
darkwolf523 1 points 1y ago
Did you cast a spell on me? I’m scare now
