Drive times (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by EnvironmentalNewt814
Our store got a new SM a little while ago, and recently she has been relentless with getting drive times down. The issue is, she under schedules us in the afternoon/night so when it hits peak and we have a line wrapped around the building with only two people on bar it is seemingly impossible. She will hang up print outs of our drive times to show how our times need to be lower. I’m just not sure what to do, i literally can only make four different frappes by myself so quickly. Has anyone else been dealing with this issue?

at this point, the company should just start using actual robots to work in their stores because that’s ridiculous.

YES EXACTLY. I had a SM (who was temporary) and an ASM and both them would consistently get on us about our low customer connection scores AND our wait times… which one do you want?

I don’t usually work peak but I have heard the partners who do have been bugging management to give them some extra support. After while it worked out and they are now getting the support they need. Maybe bring it to your SM’s attention? If enough people feel the same way I’m sure something can be done.

This is literally why I left my store. When I first started, the normal SM was out on leave and we had a great team of ASMs and SSs that really worked together, staffed appropriately, etc. Our DT times were usually 40-45 secs and they were okay with that. When SM came back ALL the ASMs we had left and a single new ASM came in. It was like the SM and the new ASM were constantly in a competition over DT times. Expectation dropped to 35 secs, then 30, then less than 30. We were slammed from the time we opened until probably 11am, then things would cool off until about 2pm and pick back up for the rest of the evening. We were all *hustling* and if at any point you were deemed the reason times weren’t consistently dropping, you were relegated to customer support every shift for weeks on end. It was literally one of the most toxic environments I have ever worked in for NO GOOD REASON.

My drive times were 40-45 seconds and usually that’s because we throw on a 3rd bar for peak. Have R1 bar when there’s no customers as a “Support” 3rd bar

We have a similar situation but only really enforced in the mornings. We can do 35 sec with everyone having a headset on, with 2 cold bars(one ref/one fraps) and 1 drive bar. It is literally impossible with high order sizes especially understaffed in the afternoon. If they ask why it's at 50 seconds with only 1 bar and multiple frapp orders, I'd simply say I'm trying my best. Literally anyone they put in that situation is gonna be set up for failure. So my advice is just do your best and put your mental first.

Are ya'll drive thru only? My store doesnt allow bar positions to wear headsets so that we can connect with customers /sigh. Our drive times are usually at 50sec tho

We are high volume cafe/mop and drive-thru. Thankfully, not ubereats as well. And wow, even drive bar can't wear headsets? I can't imagine doing it without it. We pretty much need to be done with half the first drink by the time stickers print.

We can wear a headset if there's 3 or less of us on the floor, otherwise nahhh we gotta greet and chit chat. The pace some of you gotta work at is insane smh

There’s only so much we can do. There are only like 2 stores in our district that have the “goal” peak otw times that they supposedly want us to have so I honestly think it’s just applying the pressure to theoretically keep you running when you’re at work.

You’re not the only one. Do your best, sure, but you as one person can’t fix everything

Everyone is always complaining about drive times, it just goes in one ear and out the other to me at this point

your new SM sounds a lot like my old SM who left my store a few months back. she literally made me hate working peak and became one of the main reasons I stopped being a peak partner
