Harassment? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by heyumsorryitsme
So our SM and ASM have been harsh on us regarding our dress code, enough for a lot of the shifts to begin to question why they are being so hard on us. Some do make sense, until it gets way out of hand and they don’t let us work if we don’t meet the requirements. It definitely gives leverage to those to who try act on a higher position to be rude and try to boss peers around. The thing is, we wouldn’t find it as weird until we realized that its ONLY us. Other locations can get away with so much, but the city is pressing down so hard on us, and now we cant even wear our store visors?! Why sell them if we cant wear them? Its totally getting out if hand, and we don’t understand why they our being so hard on us when we have the best times and the best reviews. One of the shift has even filed a complaint because this feels like harassment, we cant go a single shift without someone being called out on their dress code. Is anyone else going through this or are we just being dramatic?

As an SSV, whenever I broach the topic of dress code it’s typically for footwear, shirt *think crop top or boobs out and even a little let’s get high stuff *, from the safety aspect, if you get burnt it’s plausible that workers comp couldn’t cover it. It’s also a dress code for a reason, you’re expected to follow it. Some of it sucks, yes, but with any job there is a dress code. I have a secondary job in healthcare, I wear grey scrubs and can only change into a different color if something horrific happens *like a patient bled, shit, or pissed on me* I follow that dress code because it’s an industry standard. It’s part of the professionalism attribute. It could also be that a DM or SM is being questioned about their job/ability to enforce regulations. I had a huge partner relations meeting in my store and my manager let me know “if you’re not dressed within code you WILL be sent home”, unfortunately you cannot wear whatever you want, it sucks, yes, but again, there’s a dress code for a reason.

I haven’t heard of this. Are you guys like in Seattle or something?

no, its somewhere near dallas, and the thing is we would all be somewhat okay with it if they treated the other locations the same, but they don’t. honestly i was blown away when i found out we cant wear the visors ???? like why?? they literally gave them to us and they could be bought on the literal coffeegear website. how does that even make sense?

honestly we dont know why theyre being this way considering we are one of the best, most disciplined locations. we never have out nails done, not even nail polish. we have the lowest times in the district, best sales and reviews. like it literally makes no sense to give us such a hard time when we really do try our best. its all just so unnecessary, especially because when we go to other locations we literally see so many health hazards with others partners but no one ever gets in trouble or is sent home for it.
