Does anyone have any advice for managing stress ): (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Sure_Kiwi3037
Today was my first day without a trainer and I was put on drive thru window (idk acronyms yet) for my whole 7.5 hr shift. I like to think I did pretty decent, but I am SO overwhelmed and stressed. More mentally drained than anything? I’m not sure how to not bring work to my home.

I also feel like some of my coworkers, mostly the ssv’s, don’t have much patience for me ): I was repeatedly told over and over during my training, “don’t take anything serious or personal. A lot of the time someone might sound rude or upset with you, but they most likely don’t realize it or they are overwhelmed themselves. It’s going to happen to you, the same way you’ll eventually do it to others”. I never realized how sensitive I was until I felt really guilty by doing something wrong; whether it be leaving my station or accidentally closing the till.

I guess I was thrown in an unexpected loop and I’m unsure how to continue to resolve my mental issues. Looking for any pointers or advice, I appreciate it if you read this (:

Unfortunately the best way is to get comfy w your coworkers. Learn about: them what's their favorite drink or position, what do they do in free time, what are their suggestions for the store, try to attend gatherings and parties they might throw, learn to laugh and joke w them. Ask about everything. Where are trash bags kept? What's peak like? What's the specific regulars that are fussy about their drinks. Etc. If you're an anti-social introvert it will require a butt ton of energy.

As for energy recovery, do your best to not think about work outside of work. This is very very VERY difficult. You didn't do anything wrong even if you did something wrong. You don't have to respond to chat messages or pick up extra shifts if you don't want to. You're not being rude, you're setting boundaries. If you have a hobby, get really into it. If you don't, find one.working out is a great way to relieve stress- personally this is shit. Who wants to go work out after an 8 hr labor intensive shift.

Anyway. Also. Starbucks offers therapy, get on that now even if you don't think you need it. Having someone to talk to that is literally being paid by your employer to listen to you is a haven. Talk to them about work and personal life stuff- good, bad, and ugly. Hey! I saw a bird do a back flip today! It was hella dope. Or hey! I forgot how to make a flat white! Get on that.

Take the job seriously- this helps out your coworkers- but don't take it too seriously- this helps you. We're here for you!

I really appreciate your reply, thank you (‘: I can definitely be a bit awkward at times, but I have been trying to get out of my shell as much as possible! Im always asking tons of questions, as much as I can. I’ll also join Lyra as soon as I’m qualified, no hesitation.

Again thanks (: I’m sure your team is very lucky to have you on board
