Ohh. Are these Mastrena 1 or 2? As far as I know they don't lock, they go into deep sleep after pilling, but you can manually put them into deep sleep

Oh yea once it hasn’t been cleaned for about 24 hours it’ll lock up and force you to clean it. Happened to all of our bars one after the other once. So make sure it’s happening at night or that you’re checking as soon as you clock in during the opening.

Okay I see now you're talking about pilling for the required cleaning cycle! If it's while the store is open, it's usually done one machine at a time so you can make drinks on the others, but they should be done close to the same time.
The machines require cleaning (pills) every 24 hrs (or close to that). If they aren't pilled, they won't steam or pull shots. Most commonly the closers pill them, because it needs to be done around the same time every day. You don't want to do it when it's busy.
They won't lock until it's time for the next cleaning cycle. On Mastrena 2s you can check how long each machine has using the dial, under the settings>cleaning. It will say *"x hrs until cleaning required"*.

They should be pilled at least twice daily (open and close) and if at all possible midday, but don’t need to be pilled at the exact same time.
In my day with the Mastrena 1s, we’d get them both pilled and cleaned at different times throughout the evening, and line the grounds drawer with paper towel to keep it pristine for the openers. Just toss in the compost when you leave for the night.

not sure about the (am) crew but all I’m aware is that their pilled at night and obviously cleaned throughout the day as it gets full :)
