Target Starbucks vs regular Starbucks store(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Pretty_psycho333
Hi! I’m a 17 year old rising high school senior who has been working at a grocery store for about 10 months now. I am ready for a change, and I am seriously considering applying to be a barista at Starbucks. There are probably around 10 stand-alone stores within 25 minutes of me, as well as one inside a local Target. I was wondering what the general consensus is for working in a regular Starbucks store vs in a Target? Or even a Harris Teeter. I was just curious like if there are any main differences I should be aware of when applying. I do plan to apply to a few different locations to better my chances of getting contacted. TYIA!

Stand-alone stores are generally corporate stores. The ones inside Target are licensed stores. Meaning they are Target employees, not Starbucks employees, and they use Starbucks equipment and product. Target baristas don’t get tips, Starbucks employees do. And there are different benefits and discounts depending on if you work at Target or Starbucks.
Maybe it’s different in your area, and I know how hard it can be to find one, but I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere for a job. Working for Starbucks is not like it used to be. I got out in 2019 after 6 years and didn’t realize until I was working at a different coffee shop just how miserable and abusive and stressful it was to work at Starbucks. Regardless, good luck

Oh wow, I didn’t realize that. Thank you for letting me know. I do see how working at Starbucks could be stressful and I bet their management is very strict…

I work at a tarbucks so idk exactly how it is at stand alone (corporate) stores but I’ll give you a rundown to the best of my ability.
-at a target; you’re payed more hourly since you’re technically a target employee so you get target wages ($17 in my area but it varies) rather than Starbucks -whether or not you can accept tips depends on management -it’s less busy than a corporate starbucks so less stressful -you only get 1 free drink per shift (as opposed to 1 per break at a corporate store) and no bean mark out -target employee discount of 10% rather than Starbucks of 40% (I think that’s what it is?) -pretty solid healthcare either way -you can pick up sales floor shifts when Starbucks hours are cut
It’s honestly just about what’s most important to you. I do wish I had access to the markouts and discount of a corporate worker but at the end of the day I enjoy the lower stress and Wild West mentality of a tarbucks

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats!
17 + 1 + 1 + 10 + 40 = 69

In my tarbucks my TL actually lets us get whatever drinks/ whatever food we want during working, my store is actually the buisness tarbucks in my district, and a lot of the time if you’re a closer you will be left alone for the last 5 hours of your shift. Other than that I’ve been working at target for 5 years and they’ve always treated me right even though it’s SO stressful working at my Starbucks, you’ll get the target 10% off employee discount, %5 more off with a redcard, and also you can get up to %30 off health and wellness products like fruits & veggies, there’s also extra discounts for target brand items. Honestly I think it’s more worth it to work for target purely because of the discounts you’ll be able to receive at EVERY target on every items.
