Genuinely upset with my store manager. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by t3llm3m0re
So, Ive told my store manager that I have a second job, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to not want to be scheduled 7-8 hours for every Saturday. I’ve communicated this to her, and submitted my availability change with that note. It’s still not approved and this is genuinely frustrating me because my other job takes priority because I went to school for this. I don’t know what to do other than ask her once again tomorrow to approve it but I don’t want to spend every waking moment working.

As much as it sucks, they do not have to approve availability changes or time off requests. If your availability doesn't fit business needs, unfortunately they can fire you. They usually talk to you about opening up your availability and business needs.

Well then she’s getting reported to PCC for that. She needs to manage her expectations because I’m not her slave.

Reporting her for what? The handbook, that you were required to signed a paper that you read and agree to follow, has a paragraph about availability needing to meet business needs or you can be separated. Usually you have to be avaible for a minimum of 12 hrs a week. Some districts and stores have other expectations and as long as they apply them to everyone, PCC isn't going to get involved.

Hopefully speaking with her works out, but if not there's a chance you could be let go.

I’m not refusing to work. I have another job. My only request isn’t being overworked. How is that so unreasonable to both you and her?

One I'm just telling you what company policy is. How is that saying you are being unreasonable?
How many days are you avaible to work at starbucks? If it's just Saturday, because you work your other job, she's already doing you a solid by not having already letting you go. If you work mutiple days at Starbucks and just want to cut back on one day, yeah they are being unreasonable.
