i lied on my resume saying i worked at starbucks as a barista and now i have a meeting with a starbucks manager monday (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by warrenbuffetandgrill
so for a little background, im trans, ive been in and out of psych for the past few years, havent been able to hold down a steady job so ive been doing sw to make ends meet but i really couldnt take it mentally any longer. so i lied on my resume saying i worked at a starbucks that closed down and just had a phone interview, im supposed to meet the manager in 3 days. i have worked in a coffee shop before but not as a barista and i really have no idea what theyll expect me to already know. im kinda shitting myself rn, ive always been good at faking it til i make it but I feel like im going to be missing a lot of starbucks specific info that will make it very suspicious. what do i do :')

Listen bro i mean this kindly. I always approve of lying on resumes to get jobs, but if you havent been able to hold down a job for mental health then maybe sbux isnt for you. It definitely has its benefits but it can be incredibly mentally taxing and many people leave because of how stressful it is. If you said you worked at starbucks then they will expect you to at least know how to make most of the more basic drinks, they will be able to tell if you havent done the job before. I would bail before youre too deep in, its not something reddit can prepare you for

I wish you all the best man. Maybe, try and apply for a different job and keep stabrucks on your resume, that way you still have the "experience" and a different job wouldn't be able to spot someone lying about it so easily

This. I would recommend a much calmer environment for you.

Just be honest and assume the consequences of your actions

I agree. You need to tell the truth.

They’ll be able to find out if you worked at Starbucks or not 🙄

Not entirely, if they’re licensed and non-target how would they know? Airport starbucks are not licensed. You can absolutely BS your way around this.

Editing to add if my memory serves me right Target baristas have numbers now, so if they ask don’t say Target.

That was a typo. It’s supposed to say I worked with *Stray Ducks*. Yeah we’d pick up strayducks wherever, and shelter them until they could find a forever home.

Yo say you worked at some licensed store they wont have any record of you at a corporate starbucks and if you can talk it up about how you're good at customer connections and u know the drinks then you're good
platonicbae 8 points 1y ago
just say you worked at a licensed starbucks
platonicbae 7 points 1y ago
that way if you don’t know the drinks very well it won’t be surprising because licensed stores can be nightmares sometimes

LOL yeah i worked at a licensed sbux 2-3 years before i got hired at a corporate location when i moved. They dont have any record of me being a partner, i got new numbers when i was hired, etc. the "wow youre so good on bar!" comments really got to my head lol

tell them you absolutely love making caramel crunch frappuccinos

If it’s any consolation even if you HAD worked for the bucks, left then returned you would still be required to be re-trained. I don’t rlly agree with lying on the resume but I get it, job searching can be intimidating & awful-gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. Use this as a learning experience. Best of luck & much love💚

Just say you worked at a licensed sbux, they’ll have no way of checking

talk abt great customer connections & working w other baristas to support in making it a smooth shift. also try to learn the difference between americanos, lattes & a cappuccino since they’re the most common
