lol she’s deleting my shifts byeeee
Notsotaciturn7 points1y ago
When I quit the Bux it was because I got a teaching job. I'd told them that's why I moved to the state. To get a job with my degrees. I quit with basically 1 week notice and I did the same to Whole Foods (I was working both jobs). Sorry but who has time to be tortured at work but customers and (some) fellow partners/SLs when they are preparing to wrangle and educate children? When I quit my shifts were deleted THAT DAY and my partner numbers were gone within 20 hours. Boom.
cloudsasw1tnesses23 points1y ago
thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
mrcupcake1857 points1y ago
Hell yeah! I am so proud of you for putting yourself first because no job is worth compromising yourself like that. Also while my store is not like this (thank god) I always here that “connecting” is always the biggest topics in the meeting with all the shifts and I was like damn you want me to connect more? If I connect anymore I will have to date each customer at this point lol
cloudsasw1tnesses31 points1y ago
yeppp it’s so ridiculous how much effort they expect us to put in to get to know the customers how am i supposed to have good drive thru times while also forcing every customer to have a deep convo w me while also having no idea what to say bc i am overstimulated and my brain is ruined from my addiction LOL like…
mrcupcake1812 points1y ago
Omg yes! I have anxiety and it’s pretty well managed with cognitive behavioral therapy and meds but I do get the being overstimulated. Also they should not being pushing you to have meaningful conversations. Then it just comes off as fake and we aaaaall know our customers can sense it
cloudsasw1tnesses14 points1y ago
i know they definitely can sense it and i hate when people try to make conversation when i’m getting food somewhere and assume most of them would too bc most of them pull up on their phones or with someone else, so what’s the big deal of making small conversation being polite and getting them what they’re there for?? i’ve tried to have better conversations and end up stumbling over my words and receiving awkward laughs and smiles i don’t wanna feel like a dumbass at work that’s embarassing lol. i’m glad you’re able to manage your anxiety that’s awesome! i’m in dbt for the borderline and my therapist tells me to validate my feelings but remind myself it’s just coffee but it’s hard to do that when the people around me treat it like it’s the olympics and not just coffee. i guess it’s just not the job for me lol
mrcupcake183 points1y ago
Oh yes I use to think “remind myself it’s just this” oh wow thanks so simple no shit! But it’s always the simplest things that are hrs to implement in your life bd we sometimes can’t see it. And yea that job was not for you lol just keep doing what you are doing and I hope you find something where you are better understood and appreciated!
cookiemonstah879 points1y ago
The thing that always makes it especially hard for me to want to engage more with customers is that as a customer, don't ask me my life story. I'd prefer not even giving my name, but I have to. Please don't talk to me any more than is necessary for this transaction to occur. I will be very polite, but I really don't want a conversation.
So as an employee, I feel like I recognize that in a lot of customers. Some definitely want to chat, but a lot are just wanting to order their coffee and walk away
mrcupcake186 points1y ago
Exactly! I just feel the vibe honestly. I’m a very social and talkative person but not everyone is so I just go with however you interact with me
QuotetheOrca1 points1y ago
its all about being able to read the person in front of you & engage accordingly... that's what I learned from being in sales
jazzysoranio33 points1y ago
Yeah, and know like ten thousand other “partners” feel the same way you do. Our best is just never good enough, but what they don’t realize is that it’s not good enough because they’re really expecting us to fix THEIR problems. And when our best doesn’t fix their executive-level problems they blame us. That’s how things never get fixed. Rather than fix the system, facilities, technology, and workflow they just pile it on us and tell us to figure it out. They want you, one of their lowest paid employees, to solve the fact that our entire building just isn’t designed to produce the numbers they want. They want you to solve the fact that customers don’t feel a “third-place” connection even though THEY’RE the ones who have turned Starbucks from a third-place to an assembly line frapp factory. And in the mind of corporate it’s somehow YOUR fault that customer feel less connected. They need someone to take the fall for the fact that customers don’t feel connected, and unfortunately that’s you and me and baristas all over the country who are trying hard to make a system work that we have no control over.
Go, be free.
TrebleClefable11 points1y ago
I could not agree with you more. I've come to terms with the reality that we just cannot produce enough to keep up with orders. This leads to us being treated like garbage all day by people lining up waiting as one of 10+ mobile orders.
They don't understand how much we have to do! We can't do any better. There's a fundamental problem with the business model at this point but rather than address it, they blame us. I bust ass all day and still don't get everything done. You should not have to work as hard as we do at a coffee shop, it's beyond ridiculous.
jazzysoranio12 points1y ago
And the thing is it really has very little to do with how hard we work. This isn’t a scenario where it just takes hard work, skill, and determination. This is a situation where we’re going in to do a job that doesn’t make sense, is not designed to work, but we’re still being punished when it doesn’t work and we’re being gaslit into thinking it’s because we weren’t putting in enough effort. I’m a very hard worker, I’m passionate in everything I do, and I like to problem solve and see a task through until it is done to my satisfaction. Sure, there are always going to be lazy baristas in every store. But don’t be distracted by this, the issue isn’t with lazy store partners, it’s very much a systemic problem coming from the top. Lazy partners in the stores can’t explain why virtually every store across the nation has the same issues. If stores are having the same issues nation-wide then the problem is with management at the highest level. Our stores, our technology, our facilities, our equipment, our software, all of it is working AGAINST our goals, and therefore, against us. Rather than supporting us to accomplish their mission they allow unnecessary obstacles to hinder us and work against us every day and then get upset when we fail.
aspoonfulofsammy112 points1y ago
The gaslighting is unreal. Everything is put back on us. I just got my first write-up after 3.5 years of busting my ass. I was made to feel as tho my mistreatment is because I don’t advocate for myself. Like really?! The write-up was in direct contradiction to their own explanations of policy 6 months ago. In January, I was in trouble for guiding people to answer the COVID coach in such a way that would take the questions very literally and people would get sent home. I was told pre-existing conditions don’t count and only new symptoms/unusual should be reported. Well, now, 6 months later, I came in a day after having a migraine. (Keep in mind, my migraines have made me puke since I was a young child.) I answered the coach that I had no symptoms of food poisoning, because a migraine isn’t food poisoning. So by their own logic, puking from it wasn’t a new or unusual symptom for me. Right??? Wrong. I was written up for falsifying a legal document. I was completely gaslit every step of the way, when I had a very emotional reaction to the write-up. So I’m out.
The manipulation from District Management is un-fucking-believable. Everything is our fault, and our responsibility. We have to foster a positive work environment, support our partners, develop meaningful connections with guests, and maintain trusting, open communication with everyone. If we don’t feel celebrated in any of our wins? Our fault. If we don’t feel like we have open communication with our SM? Our fault. If we don’t feel like we’re being supported? Our fault. It’s all ours to fix and they never take responsibility or even acknowledge the struggle. So yeah. Fuck Starbucks.
jazzysoranio2 points1y ago
Basically, here’s a pile of unreasonable and impossible tasks, and we’re gonna make you feel like it’s your fault every time you don’t accomplish them.
QuotetheOrca0 points1y ago
wait... what?
cloudsasw1tnesses4 points1y ago
thank u i really appreciate this comment
QuotetheOrca1 points1y ago
Corporate isn't blaming them though... it's the idiot shift lead..?
jazzysoranio1 points1y ago
That’s true (although I think it was the manager. Idk the post got deleted 😑). But yeah, I realized I forgot I was gonna add to that comment that often times managers can be that way because they are getting a lot of pressure from corporate to do that. That’s why a lot of our favorite mangers either quit or turn to the dark side. They’re faced with either becoming the bad guy as a requirement or facing the wrath of Starbucks corporate. Unfortunately, that means a lot of that toxicity from higher up spills over onto us .
QuotetheOrca1 points1y ago

friendlySkeletor18 points1y ago
Hell yeah good on you! You deserve better and your boss shouldn't be yelling at you like that. If you're feeling petty and have the energy you should let the DM or HR or whoever know why. SSVs and SMs shouldn't be yelling at people and should be accomadating to ppl's needs within reason and they're doing the total opposite.
cloudsasw1tnesses10 points1y ago
thank you! i am feeling petty i may just let them know that they treated me like shit for showing signs of the disability that they knew of when i was hired lol. there’s one more person there with adhd who also gets treated like they’re incompetent and constantly yelled at and they’ve worked there for 3 YEARS i knew it wasn’t going to stop. and that person isn’t able to transfer stores because they got written up for “not working hard enough” when they try their best
friendlySkeletor4 points1y ago
As someone with a lot of the same issues i find petty spite to be such a good motivator.
cloudsasw1tnesses7 points1y ago
on the phone with ethics right now they’re still talking about me at the store but i have two witnesses who heard and saw them watching my tik toks about my mental health making fun of them when i left including my store manager and a customer noticed
SomeBewitchery13 points1y ago
Call ethics and compliance while your numbers still work and file a claim about being discriminated against for having a disability/medical issue. Specifically mention the screaming. ADHD can require medication and you ID'd as having it and it may help your other partner with it too. That's a true 'go fuck yourself' from you to your manager and likely get them fired, as it will trigger an investigation internally.
cloudsasw1tnesses7 points1y ago
i can’t take meds because i am an addict and i am sober and my store manager knows this yet expects me to keep up anyways and yells at me when i don’t she told me we’re “going to have a problem” if i don’t keep up which is when i left. the other person with adhd was written up for not working hard enough and is unable to transfer from this toxic store so they’re trapped. disgusting behavior and im on the phone with ethics right now filing a report i told them EVERYTHING including that a customer made a comment about the tension she sensed from my shift lead towards me yesterday and that my shift lead made a comment about how it’s funny to watch people in their addictions. with me not knowing she’s been watching my tik tok and my journey to recovery on there.
Levinem7174 points1y ago
Hello! Do you have a doctor to speak with? Or a psychiatrist? I understand the addiction part, so maybe a psychiatrist can help out in other ways? Or therapy too? Just in case you have those available to you.
cloudsasw1tnesses3 points1y ago
yes i have both and im in sober living, i have a lot of tools to help right now it’s not easy still but i’m working hard to get better
SomeBewitchery2 points1y ago
I really only mentioned medication in case they tell you ADHD isn't a protected disability in your state (it isn't in some states.) Either way, being in recovery/having it constitutes a medical condition that you're recieving treatment for, and that should be more than enough to damn them for harassment and bullying.
Regardless, I'm so proud of y'all for getting out. I've fought with 3-4 stores in my ten years with anxiety/ADHD and only just this year got diagnosed and an established medical accommodation (no headsets and more frequent breaks.) It's such a fucking fight, and self ID is what saved me from being told to 'just deal with it'. I'm ngl I'm low key laughing too: your manager wants a higher customer connection score while screaming at you guys? All that genius is doing is pushing rope up a slippery hill by threatening write ups.
cloudsasw1tnesses2 points1y ago
good for u im glad you got accommodations and im sorry it was so hard for you to i understand. and frrrr dude like it’s so frustrating
Brgnbo5 points1y ago
That, and make sure you let them know she threatened you on the floor “or we’re gonna have a problem” like ??? What’s that supposed to mean. No manager should talk like that to any partner
iforgotmyprevlog7 points1y ago
And these store managers wonder why they can find people, or why people are leaving in droves. It’s bc some of these sm’s are not fit for this job. I hope you find better this all sounded like such a nightmare
cloudsasw1tnesses1 points1y ago

MLGTheForkOnTheLeft5 points1y ago
Dude apparently a LOT of shifts are terrible at their job. For my area i have been absolutely BLESSED that my store is like a treasure trove of everyone getting along to a decent extent.
If those shifts did not try to work with you in any way, then im sorry that you had a terrible roll of the dice for that location. You will do better somewhere else. Its only a matter of time before that store just collapses and they lose their hours and all that jazz.
cloudsasw1tnesses2 points1y ago
yeah i’m gonna try maybe a grocery store job or something less crazy intense bc i am just not built for a company like this
Epona_025 points1y ago
I mean, we are supposed to keep the window open the entire time barring special circumstances like weather. However, understand feeling awkward at the window, and a lot of customers aren’t even going to want to talk so not constantly engaging should be allowed. I’m sorry you felt harassed
cloudsasw1tnesses2 points1y ago
i get told to shut the window if im not talking to someone so that’s why i close the window they complain about bugs getting in. i get what you’re saying tho thank u
Epona_021 points1y ago
completely understand, i live in a very windy state so we frequently keep our window closed just because of that
thebestdaysofmyflerm-7 points1y ago
>I mean, we are supposed to keep the window open the entire time barring special circumstances like weather.
Why are you defending a bullshit rule like that? Do you like having bug infestations or something?
Epona_027 points1y ago
how do you get me pointing out a policy that is technically in place as defending it? when in my next sentence i say we should be allowed to not fully interact with every single customer? like i don’t think this is a bullshit corporation too lmao, reading comprehension
edit: we also have the wind shield to keep bugs out for this very rule, you just gotta reach up and flip the switch
thebestdaysofmyflerm0 points1y ago
Real reading comprehension would be understanding that using “I mean” in that context is a way of contradicting someone, especially since you followed it with a correction of something they said. You were expressing doubt that they were treated unjustly, and pretending otherwise is just obtuse.
Why else would your very first words to a distraught person explaining their plight be to correct them over a tiny detail? Either you have zero tact whatsoever, or you're trying to poke holes in their story. Either way it's very shitty behavior.
Epona_021 points1y ago
you’re absolutely right, even though i think what this person went through is terrible we should never point out flaws or technicalities and should blindly coddle everyone
Levinem7173 points1y ago
You’re my hero lmao. I kept eating my mangers abuse over and over until they fired me. I too have adhd, I have been with the company for 8 years, majority of those being a shift. Most of my coworkers loved me as their shift, saying I was doing a good job. I have customers approach and tell me that too. Yet almost after every shift, my manager would tell me i did something wrong or I’m not meeting expectations. She knew about my mental issues too and pretended to listen, but fired me… for…… forgetting a Covid check. This company blows major ass for anything health related.
cloudsasw1tnesses2 points1y ago
damn that’s fucked im so sorry
pipebombings3 points1y ago
So happy for you, I hope you find a place that treats you well!! You should tell the DM so this doesn’t happen to others in the future, but it’s ridiculous how they prioritize small talk in a drive thru where I’m willing to bet that person will not remember the conversation at all. No way to treat a partner… much love <3
cloudsasw1tnesses2 points1y ago
thank u! i reported them to ethics :,)
Bunphomet3 points1y ago
Proud of you!! This shiny spine will serve you well in life 💕
cloudsasw1tnesses3 points1y ago
thank you!! <3
philosopher_cat_lady2 points1y ago
And this is why Starbucks needs to get rid of its nonsensical customer connection score
QuotetheOrca2 points1y ago
you also had the option to call for accommodation & corporate likely would've approved you... Starbucks is an awesome company, I'm sorry the team you worked with sucked at being decent human beings
Overall-Diver-68452 points1y ago
Damn good for you!! That’s plenty of small talk. Fuck that b all the way to hell!
cheftec2 points1y ago
Heya, This is a hard thing, especially in early recovery. I experienced similar. It was hard to bring it up to people and talk about it, not just what happened, but how angry it made me. It let me put my feelings into context, and how I didn’t have to drink or use over it. So whatever program you’re working, or contacts you have, if you need one more, I’d be happy to listen.
cloudsasw1tnesses2 points1y ago
thank you so much i appreciate that i talked to my sponsor about it which is good i also live in a sober house which helps, i did want to use over it honestly and i keep getting rly resentful and upset but i’m trying my best not to
cheftec1 points1y ago
I feel that resentment. It’s easy to focus on it too since it’s authentic. Sponsors are a great resource- and they’ve probably been or know someone who has been in a similar situation. Stay safe!
happypoptart02 points1y ago
Hi friend! Just want to say i’m super proud of you and i’m so sorry this is happening/happened ❤️ You don’t deserve to feel less than and i’m sorry they made you feel that way! You are amazing!!!!!! I hope things with this ethics call turn out and some of them get what they deserve because for a place that advertises we are inclusive and accommodating this scenario is the total opposite. They shouldn’t be able to be in positions of power and get away with treating people like this!!! Again, super proud of you!!!!!!!!!
cloudsasw1tnesses1 points1y ago
thank u!!
linkedarmsforpeace2 points1y ago
wish you the best :3
cloudsasw1tnesses1 points1y ago
thank u u too!
hehe_1232 points1y ago
Good on you. Fuck them. I think having coworkers and a manager makes or breaks your job no matter how good/ bad it is.
cloudsasw1tnesses2 points1y ago
fr yes i agree
Notsotaciturn1 points1y ago
Also Whole Foods deleted me from their system within a day.

Why do you make tik toks with that much accessible personal information?
Our mission is to provide everyone with access to large- scale community websites for the good of humanity. Without ads, without tracking, without greed.
