SM here, thought I’d add my input a little to see if it eases your stress!

Understand that this may be different in your area vs mine. But first off, your SM is definitely not supporting you enough, they should be more communicative and let you know what’s going on. Secondly, this may fall into the same type of situation with disabilities with partners. Say for example you have a hearing disability, your SM is supposed to not see any of the medical documentation that gets filed. You would strictly be in communication with your Partner Relations Representative. This prevents the potential that an SM discriminates someone based on their medical information.

When in doubt, email your DM! They can either help you find your answer, or get on your SM so they give you an answer!

How did you get hurt?
Did you contact Sedgewick?

I went to a walk in clinic after work. Repeated stress injury from work. As far as I know the doctors office is dealing with sedgwick and my manager is taking me off the schedule without communicating that to me first lol

You can also call sedgwick. They can let you know how to submit the paperwork to get compensated for the time you are off. Also try to contact your manager via phone or in person to see what's up. If you have certain types of work restrictions then their hands are tied regarding you working. All that is handled by sedgwick.
Seriously the system is set up to protect you (although it can definitely not feel that way) from further injury while working.
I hope your injuries heal soon and am sorry as I know repetitive motion injuries are quite painful. And I totally feel you on the stress if being hurt and also needing the income. Definitely try to use any leave you have accrued and then hit short term disability insurance if you have it. Use the leave hours first because that is full pay. The disability insurance only pays a percentage.
Best wishes for a rapid recovery.

Did your doctor say you could return to work in the condition you're in? Maybe you've already been put on a leave of absence until your dr. says its ok to return to work because from the looks of it it'll be difficult to acomodate work for you.

Cleared for light duty, but I probably wouldn't be useful or effective even just on register and brewing with one hand. Splint is on continuous for 2 weeks, then at night for two more weeks.

That's probably why you're off the schedule, I'd contact sedgwick tomorrow to see whats up. They might be able to give you more information than your SM. Your SM was probably just instructed to remove you off the schedule since light duty doesn't really fit into any of the positions. They'd probably rather you recover than get an even worse injury while working. Hope you get better soon!

Could you just be a greeter and maybe stock cups, clean counters with your good hand… fill food trays? Slowly of course

Isn't it literally company policy for you to call sedgewick after something like this? and your manager didn't say anything....?

WTF is going on with managers. Every single day I am on here I read so many stories about managers being complete garbage human beings.

Isn't it literally company policy for you to call Sedgewick after something like this? and your manager didn't say anything....?ant their number. If they won't give it to you, call partner resources and they will. You could bypass your manager and just tell partner resources you want the number, and while you're at it, I would explain to them what is going on also.

You should talk to Sedgwick about it. Even if your doctor says you can work with restrictions, Sedgwick can decide the restrictions aren’t compatible with Starbucks work and that you need to take time off which should all be paid. Unfortunately your injury looks like you can barely move your hand, which would severely impact your ability to work on bar or lift anything and can even cause you to be slower on window or register. If they decide you can’t work then they will pay you.

Medical devices cannot be worn at work without an accommodation. You absolutely need to call for one. Your manager should have communicated that to you, but they did do the right thing. As soon as a partner pulls a doctors note out, you are required to be put on a LOA until youre released from doctors care or youre accommodation is approved. Anything other than regular work cannot be handled at the store level. Heal quickly!

Make sure you file a worker's compensation claim. You might have to see an approved doctor. If you aren't cleared for work, you should be paid for the time you can't work. You might want to contact a worker's compensation lawyer for retaliation for filing a claim.

My store has a barista hat only worked with one hand for a while. They stayed mostly on POS during that time but my sm never took them off of the schedule.

Sounds like retaliation re your manager’s behavior and either way they have a responsibility to treat you better than this. You should definitely get in touch with ethics and compliance. Enjoy your settlement bestie!
