i got yelled at by a customer for not giving him a mug (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lovey12120
i was taking orders and my starbucks puts personal cups in a large mug to reduce barista contact with a personal cup for our hygiene and the customer’s (not sure if other starbucks do this too). so this customer got her personal cup discount and i had her place it in the mug and then i gave it to the partner on bar. so then this guy come up to me and says he wants a mug of coffee. i just thought maybe he misspoke or something so i just rang him up for a simple cup of pike. he went to use our restroom and i grabbed the pike and put it on the bar. a couple minutes later, i was grabbing something from bar when i noticed him standing there so i smiled and pointed to his coffee and said “your coffee is on the bar.” and he said “i ordered a mug.” i was confused so i said “you didn’t give me a mug” and he said “no i ordered one of YOUR mugs.” i was like “we don’t give out coffee in mugs” and he said “yeah you do i just saw you give a customer that white mug” and pointed at the personal cup mug at reg. so then i realized and explained the personal cup ordeal and he said “so i paid $3 for this? that’s stupid.” i put on my best customer service face and said “sorry about that” and he responded with “no shit” and walked out grumbling to himself. i walked away and my shift lead told me to go decompress in the back for a couple minutes since it was an intense convo. like sir if you wanted cheap coffee go to mcdonald’s down the street. since when has starbucks been known to give out mugs too lol??? ugh the life of a barista. thank god my shift was almost over

He thinks a cup of coffee from starbucks that cost $3 is expensive yet he wanted a mig or a coffee in a mug lol he wants fancy things but complains about 3$ for a coffee. Go to mcdonalds or a gas station or convenient store

Corporate stores use to do for here mugs before the pandemic. I use to work in a license store and people would get so pissy when they would say for here and I was like we only have single use cups.

Corporate stores are supposed to be offering for here mugs, they announced it last summer.

Not a single store in my district has them. Perhaps it's up to the DM.

That’s so strange and interesting

at my store we do the same thing, but since the mask mandate has been lifted in my state we’ve started giving customers their drinks in a mug again (upon request). not sure if he thought he was buying the mug too though…? lol either way it still shouldn’t have been a big deal enough for him to cuss at you

Corporate has said since last summer that customers can get drinks in for here mugs, so maybe he’s confused or you aren’t following policy?

Go to the bottom of the story and it says “ Starbucks will also be reinstating For Here Ware for customers who choose to enjoy their food and beverages in-store where indoor dining is available.”
