Question ? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Sammy0128
So I got a new job that pays $17 an hour taking care of children and currently have been a barista at sbucks for 2 years now. I really enjoy the benefits (spotify, free food) and am considering keeping the starbucks job but ONLY for clean plays since my new one requires a lot more of my time and i’m taking classes. Is it possible to work at starbucks ONLY for 3 hours a week for clean plays and still be able to keep the benefits? I can’t find it online anywhere so any advice from shifts would help :)

So for Spotify and free food it doesn’t matter but for others like health insurance there is a minimum number of hrs of 20 per week

yeah with my new job i’d have health insurance so i’m not worried i was just unsure if there is a minimum number of hours in general ? but thank you!!

I would be more worried ab sbux trying to get rid of you for only working three hours a week tbh. it makes more sense for them to give those hours to someone that is working more hours and helping the team than someone who just does clean plays and nothing else. if your store is fine with it, great, but every store I worked at would definitely not be lolll

i mean at my store we definitely need people but there’s multiple partners at my store that work 1 shift a week bc they have second jobs but it’s always an actual barista shift not a clean play. we also have had like 8 ppl quit in the last 2 months bc of our new manager (who just got fired) so who knows. i feel it’s unfair if they’d try to get rid of me for working 3 hrs a week when 3 other people work 5/wk and nobody says anything to them. i hope not!!

then it should be fine if you have other people working that few hours. I had people who dropped down to 10/15 and they were let go pretty quickly lmao. hope it works out for ya!

I believe there is a technically a 12 hour per week minimum, but every SM is different. There might be some who would allow you to only work three hours per week... but you would have to be the world's greatest cleaner.

It's unlikely to happen however. If your manager allows you to work only 3 hours per week, they would have to let everybody work only 3 hours per week.

there are partners at my store who are legit full time nurses and come in like 5 hrs a week, i think you should be fine but every store is different

i would definitely contact your SM about it, at my store it’s a 12 hour minimum. if the same is for you, you could work an eight hour shift and a clean play a week and possibly keep the Spotify benefits??
