I’ll preface by saying that I started a year ago, when I was a minor. i know working with minors can be slightly more difficult for adults, both comfort-wise and maturity-wise. I jive super well with my coworkers (all are under 30, most under 25), and do pretty well at work. I am no longer a minor, I turned 18 months ago.
This one SSV, who is 22, transferred to my store a few months after I started. She’s besties with my SM, so it’s not like I could say anything. But she’s always called me dumb little names, like “baby girl” and “sweet baby [name]”, among others. It’s always annoyed me but, whatever, I was the youngest at the store, and could put up with it. She’s also always done stuff like “you’re too young for XYZ!” Like, too young to watch Rick and Morty, too young to read a YA novel she was talking about, and today, she deemed me too young to have a boyfriend. I was not a fan of that. It feels condescending and just demeaning, especially since I’m now 18 and she knows it because we open together frequently, which I couldn’t do before.
Today, the SM did an interview with a girl who happened to be an old friend who graduated HS a few years before me. The SM asked if I knew her, and I said yes, we went to school together and are old friends. The SSV then said (super sarcastically) “yay, another minor. Can’t wait to have another CHILD working here.” And I almost snapped. I did tell her that my friend is older than me and currently in college, but I am not a child anymore. The way she talks to me is so demeaning, even more so because she’s not even four years older than me. I can’t stand it anymore.
