Hey everyone!

I just accepted a part time position at the Starbucks I frequent. Any tips for a new barista?

First of all, congratulations! Welcome to the Starbucks family! At first, I was scared and excited at the same time. Scared because I didn’t know how to make any drinks at all and might mess up, and excited because I wanted to learn how to make the drinks. It may seem hard at first, but don’t worry because you’ll have 2 weeks of training and learn how to make the drinks and know how to do certain stuff at your store. You got this! It might seem discouraging when you meet some customers who are rude and mean, but don’t go to their level. Don’t let them ruin your peace. Also, ask questions! If you don’t know something, just ask your trainer, your shift supervisor or your fellow baristas. It may seem stressful at first, but you got this!

don’t be scared!! it’s gonna take time to catch on and it’s a bunch of info at first! for me i was most intimidated and scared of register but it’ll come quickly after a few shifts. a big tip for when you start taking orders on your own is to always asked hot or iced for drinks && if you can’t find an input button for something just use the “ask me” button and type it in. for instance if they want matcha foam just input vanilla sweet cream cold foam, matcha, then press “ask me” and put “matcha in foam” :) if you ever need any help don’t be a far afraid to ask!!!! ask all the questions, your not bugging we’re here to help! i think partners would rather you ask for help taking an order than have to remake drinks so don’t be shy to reach out :)

congrats!! here’s my words of advice <3

don’t worry about not getting everything at first. with so many drinks and customizations you will not get everything first try. just practice practice practice and study the app or recipe guides.

don’t worry about being slow when you’re still learning. nobody is gonna judge you! and if they do then fuck em fr.

starbucks has a lot of supportive people who DO have your back. if they don’t, starbucks also has plenty of resources designed to help you. hopefully you never have to deal with that!

lastly, customers can be something else sometimes bc people get cranky when they need caffeine but don’t beat yourself up over anything they say. they chose to come in during busy times so they can wait for their stuff.
