New barista, is starbucks worth it? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by _loomerrrr_
Hi I have been training for two days and I have INTENSE anxiety. All of my co workers gossip about each other and even about me on how I’m not fast. My trainer is really nice but has been also telling me the people in my store are snakes. My manager seems to allow the gossiping and has even told everybody that I have a “personality” which I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. I barely talk and it seems like everyone let’s each other drown. I was anxious about starting here but I thought it wouldn’t be so bad since I will get better, but I don’t know now because of my co workers. Am I being crazy for already thinking about quitting?

No absolutely not, it’s a terrible fucking job

Yea and they seem to have this book where people can complain about the other partners. And Im not even nervous about making the drinks now it’s the people.

if you’re talking about the daily records book, that’s for supervisors to write notes about how the shift went. a lot of the time shifts don’t go great, and we have to let the next shift know why it was a sucky day so they understand why stuff didn’t get done. if they’re treating you poorly on the floor tho maybe look for a different store because it’s a fun job when you have good coworkers

That’s what I heard and that’s why I was looking forward to, but it seems like everyone is talking shit about everybody

Honestly if you don’t need the health insurance or college, run.

Unless you are good at dealing with high stress and have healthy cooling mechanisms

And/or need the 15$ per hr coming soon

This job is not for anxious people, it will chew you up and spit you out. Most stores are also very toxic and you’ll most likely never see that go away. If you’re not comfortable with the job within a few weeks, it’s not gonna get better than that most likely. It’s not ideal, but it’s true.

In my experience it was awful. I don’t recommend anyone work at Starbucks. Don’t listen to just me though; there are people who love working there, but I was not one of them.

No. Worst job ever and I used to work at Six Flags. Nothing compares.

I was there almost three years and it was the most toxic job I’ve had. It seems to attract so many people who are like out to get there coworkers…and a lot of gossip. Felt like freaking high school a lot of the time.

Nah fam it isn't worth it. The worst work combo you can have is shitty management, coworkers AND shitty customers. Awful customers are inevitable at Starbucks, and that alone makes it not really worth it. Run while you can. The only reason I stayed is because my SM is awesome and I generally feel comfortable with my coworkers. If any of that goes to shit, I'm leaving. Good luck with whatever you choose though!

I don’t know man. It really depends on multiple things. I think most important is the people you work with. If they’re terrible then you’ll hate your job. My colleagues often make my day better so I enjoy working here.

if you need the benefits i think it’s worth it. i don’t really use the benefits but for me being able to have my correct pronouns used without resistance is so important that any of the bullshit i go through there is worth it

I need the insurance but I also love my job… so… idk it’s not horrible for me.

Your team will make or break the job. The hard part isn't learning everything, it's balancing the relationships. Knowing the menu and algorithm comes with time, a bad environment may never get better.
