My store's food waste makes me so genuinely upset(self.starbucksbaristas)

It genuinely upsets me to see SO MUCH food go to absolute waste during food shortages and food hardships. I wish there was something we could do to convince the higher ups to donate the excess food to food banks or shelters... Something... Anything! Sorry, rant over.

We donate every thing except our pastry case…. Are you a corporate store or licensed
theM0stAntis0cial [OP]2 points1y ago
It's a licensed store run by a petrol company in the UK, you can't even take food home or they fire you.
cinnamondolcie4 points1y ago
you should ask your SM about it!! we donate food every week to a women's shelter

Apparently they’re testing hologram foods for the pastry case
theM0stAntis0cial [OP]1 points1y ago
I very much doubt they'll do anything like that for us, they won't even fix our dish washer 😂😂😂😂

Oh for sure! It sounds like bullshit to me-that’s just what a DM told my partners the other day.

My store had pictures in the display case for a few weeks to reduce food waste but apparently “food sales went down so much we have to go back to dumping 20+ food items every day” Makes me so annoyed that Starbucks is trying to position itself as a progressive company but does shit like this (and much much more)

we still have those and we’ve had them since like 2020 and people still give me dirty looks and say “oh, you don’t sell food anymore?” ITS A PICTURE YOU ORDER WHATS IN THE PICTURE anyways the foodcase is worse and a huge waste but yeah ppl are dumb and have no object permanence

You can. Talk to your SM about donating the food. If they don't help, ask your DM or look on the hub.

Your company sounds like it was spawned by the devil, geez. I know how you feel. I am equally passionate about food security as well. I hope you can find small ways you can reduce food waste at your office at an individual level. $1

It's so encouraging to see other stories actually donate. My district was partnered with a program, but they almost never showed up, like 1-2x a month not long after I started

during closing we all take our pick if we wanna take any home, and i love to share it with my family or neighbors + it’s a good snack and a great way to try things you wouldn’t normally try during break, but the food SHOULD be getting donated
theM0stAntis0cial [OP]2 points1y ago
We've had people sacked on the spot for taking stuff home
Perfect-Leadership582 points1y ago
no way! that’s so crazy, i’ve gotten so many meals that i otherwise wouldn’t have had because i took stuff home
theM0stAntis0cial [OP]2 points1y ago
Yep, it's appalling to me how much waste is just tossed out with zero regard.
Perfect-Leadership582 points1y ago
i didn’t know it varied from store to store like that )): i would definitely bring it up w ur SM and it’d be great if you had a group in mind to donate to
Not_Another_Karen2 points1y ago
Licensed store here, but ours is set up to be donated to farmers to feed animals, if it cannot be donated to humans first.

The majority of Starbucks donate through the Foodshare program. We put them into orange bags for delivery people to pick up, and they go to local food banks. If your store doesn't participate in it already, ask your SM/DM about starting it in your store. :)
