My shift made me cry. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SusieSlaughter
I’ve been working at Starbucks for roughly a month now. I have previous barista experience but I never realized how busy it gets. I haven’t really gotten a chance to know anybody because we’re super busy in the mornings and I am an opener.

I was off on Tuesday and I got dumped. I came into work this morning with my shift and another coworker. I told them what happened and that our four year anniversary would’ve been next week.

When I was on my 10, I talked to my shift for a little bit. My dad just had his toes amputated on his left foot. I was explaining to her that I’m not dramatic and it’s almost embarrassing for me because nobody knows me.

Before the end of my shift, I asked her if she wanted me to go on a trash run. I had been fine for the most part. She looked at me and said, “you need to get some fresh air? Come here. Give me a hug.” And i said, “no! I’m gonna start crying!” And i immediately burst into tears. She hugged me and said lots of encouraging things, like I’m a bad bitch and it’s his loss. She also told me she’s here for me. It meant so much. We added each other on Instagram and Facebook. I’m so sad she is transferring to a different store. I don’t feel so alone at my store now.

I'm so glad this was a good post and not a negative one about a shift. I was expecting to hear they did something horrible. I'm glad they are supportive.

And to follow up, you are a bad bitch, and you don't need him.

And thank you! 🥹

Lol good post. 💜🙂 ive been having troubles with my relationship with my dad cuz he was only a provider when we were younger and had crazy hours for work. Never everrrrr spent time with us and did and said some horrible shit to me and my sister and he treated my mom horribly that she once made an attempt and i had to witness it and stop it in time with my sister and then moments later, my sister tried to do the same thing which i myself saw in time and had to stop. So its not anywhere close to the story of ur dad but im just sharing to let u kno that u matter regardless of whatever ur going thru. U are loved and u will most definitely be ok 🥰

adolfop_420 1 points 1y ago
Lol everyone always hate their sm it’s part of the job
SusieSlaughter [OP] 1 points 1y ago
That’s what I gather! The biggest reason why my shift is transferring is because of the sm.

awhh. first off, i’ve been there and it does suck for awhile and you may not believe me, but after time (and that depends on you), you will start to feel better. once you’ve allowed yourself to mourn the loss (cause yes, a brutal break up is like someone dying) things won’t feel so bad all of the time.

i’m glad your shift was there for you when you really needed it. i have a shift leader just like this … went through some REALLY bad family medical stuff and had to miss a day. then when i came back, i opened the store and made it til 6:30am when i ran to the bathroom and threw up because i was so stressed and my stomach was in knots. when i composed myself, she pulled me to the back and told me to go home and take care of myself. i sobbed to her that i didn’t want to leave them in a bad spot. without missing a beat, she said “there will always be starbucks, but there will never be another *insert my name here* ever again and we don’t wanna lose you.”

it’s people like your shift and my shift that make brutal days worth it in the end. it’s always nice to know that there is someone who truly does care and has your back.

i wish you all the best!

SusieSlaughter [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Me too!! I hate crying at work but at least it was somewhat of a good cry.

i was gearing up to fight someone for you so hang on i need a second to come down from that point...

okay I'm back. I'm so glad you found a connection and you feel less alone now. having a team like that when you're suffering a breakup is stellar. keep talking and finding those little snippets of time to get to know the other baristas because oh man lifelong friendships can be made in a coffee shop.

Thanks bestie! The girl who trained me was pretty cool. I get super good vibes from just about all of my coworkers. There’s one guy who is really sweet and he tells me I’m doing a good job. 🥹🥹🥹

First off, I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through all of that :(

I love hearing stories like this, though - partners supporting partners! I’m a relatively new shift manager and really aspire to be there for my baristas like your shift was for you. Definitely keep in touch with her!
SusieSlaughter [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Yay! I’m sure you are already great! Thank you :)

Man I was ready to throw some shit down reading your title!! There are some really awesome partners out there. Also I’m so sorry someone broke your heart. You take your bad bitch self and go live a great life and show that mother fucker what he missed out on!!
SusieSlaughter [OP] 1 points 1y ago

I was ready for a really bad ending to this. LOVE THIS and many hugs to you OP. I'm glad you have a supportive shift, it makes work so much better when you can share and be supported.
SusieSlaughter [OP] 2 points 1y ago
I’ve seen so many people that make posts about their shifts, coworkers, or sm being horrible! I’m very happy that my shift is so kind. I’m thinking about bringing her a gift tmrw because it’s her last day.
casprinjuniper 1 points 1y ago
I know. The stories here make me so happy I'm at the store I'm at.

I have a great SM and forced friends (co-workers)! 😋
