pretty sure I was let go but wasn’t “officially” fired. (self.starbucksbaristas)

Kind of a rant post. Last week I did training, and I’m still pretty new to the customer service industry so there was some difficulty of me adjusting. I feel like I wasn’t trained very well, and it was like I was thrown into the fire expecting to know everything. So I haven’t been put on the schedule this week and I’m not on the schedule next week, and as my title says I’m pretty sure I don’t have a job there anymore but no one has called me or done anything officially to tell me I was let go.

It honestly feels like a blessing in disguise, because this job made me extremely anxious and I did not like working at Starbucks at all, but I’m just annoyed because if they don’t want to keep me on as a partner I wish they would just tell me instead of not scheduling me.

I think you are just very anxious about interacting with people for the first time in a customer experience situation. I was terrified to walk up and talk to people and figure out what to say. Now after 10+ years of doing it, it's easy, most of the time.

So I would say that you may not being scheduled because you aren't a strong performer or availability.

What I can recommend is improve in this category by just diving in and find your work place approached groove and start talking to people. This will place you at front and warming if you are good at warming. Or drive through either at the window making customer connections and taking money or drive through order which takes good communication skills and benefits from an upsell attitude.

If you still can't or don't want to interact with customers quite as much you can work hot bar or cold bar which has some of its own unique challenges but you have far less customer interaction other than a pleasent thank you and a smile most of the time.

Or possibly someone who works close to close and assists with cleaning the store maybe.

It kind of puts me in an awkward position if they’re not scheduling me, because I need to work to pay my bills. They haven’t reached out to me or anything, and I don’t have my asm or sm contact info to ask them about what’s going on. It just seems weird to me that they’re not scheduling me.

Hey I'm really sorry, I didn't get an update about this post.

You need to support and be the driven factor for yourself. Based off my store experience and previous retail experience, it could be due to personal availability, flexibility in job role/responsibility, or performance related.

However, I will state I have seen preferential treatment in hours that isn't related to any of the above reasons and is truly due to favoritism or perceived competency.

To be frank when your superiors aren't giving you shifts it's for a reason.

I ended up quitting. I don’t think Starbucks or customer service is something I’m cut out for. I appreciate the advice, though.

I'm sorry that I didn't respond sooner. Customer service isn't for everyone and it can be difficult.

Like it’s not in the app or not on the printed one? I know when we have new partners a random person on LOA will be scheduled hours and their name will get crossed out and the new person written over it. Idk if the system just doesn’t catch up fast enough or what, but that wouldn’t show up the new partner anywhere.
