Last minute shift meeting out of my availability. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by AuntieRia1128
The SM in charge of my store (our SM is out for surgery) expects myself and the other shifts to be available for a shift meeting on Monday. The thing is that it’s outside of my set availability, also she hasn’t actually told the rest of the shifts about it yet. I only
Know because I noticed my schedule and asked about it and she said that it was a a shift meeting… is this sufficient notice for the other shifts? Is she even going to tell them at this point or does she just expect them to notice the scheduling as well?

Is it unreasonable for me to be irritated? Should I change my life around to make this meeting work? What would you do?

definitely remind your sm about your availability and tell them you will not be able to work around your personal schedule to make the meeting. it's out of your availability and a job should not force you to revolve your life around it. If making the meeting is not a huge deal then still remind your sm that it is out of you availability but that you can figure out a way to be there but if next time they can schedule it within your availability. I'm sorry, ik it sucks. I wish store managers would learn that people have life's outside of work. personally I would do what I stated above and I think if you go without letting your sm know that it bothered you/created an inconvenience then they will not care next time they do it either

Thank you! I won’t break my back to attend, but if I can work it out I will, I am just concerned cause it’s actually In my partner hours, but I guess if I let them know it’ll just be like a call out… - also, this is so important : “if you go without letting your Sm know that it bothered you/created an inconvenience then they will not care next time they do it either”

Shift meetings will always be outside of someone’s availability. There is pretty limited over lap between am/pm shifts. It’s one of the things that is generally put in the okay to be outside availably like holiday meetings are.

it’s not unreasonable, and it’s actually very inefficient on the sms part bc, while they can still pull you aside and talk about what was discussed in the meeting, you won’t be able to hear what other shifts said or share your thoughts to the other shifts. sooo yeah remind them about your availability. shift meetings should never be outside of that
