please do not eat that, my coworkers an i went over this the other day. If a packed food bulks up like that it means there is bacteria started to get in there

that’s actually really good to know i was not aware of that!! i should look through the srirachas next time i work
Imaginarybluntallday 8 points 1y ago
I learn new things daily
BlueWaters99 4 points 1y ago
Does that also apply to things like butter croissants?? Just wondering as I saw one the other day that was in “bubble” type blown up packaging.
sheep_heavenly 4 points 1y ago
Less likely, there's a simpler explanation. Cooler air is more dense than warmer air so once thawed the air fills more of the bag. So depending on how much air got in at first it could fill the bag significantly.

Bacteria that causes botulism like very moist conditions, it's associated more with canned foods than dry goods. It's not impossible! But its unlikely.
Machokeabitch -2 points 1y ago
Wrong. The chili peppers in sriracha are fermented and hot sauce has got vinegar. Fermenting causes gas.
ElijahLordoftheWoods 13 points 1y ago
You know what else produces gas? Bacterial reproduction. That’s EXACTLY why jars have that pop up seal and there’s warnings not to use the product if it’s popped.
Miserable_Leek_8697 -6 points 1y ago
Those jar lids tell u if a product had been opened or not. Once you open it the lids pops up
ElijahLordoftheWoods 2 points 1y ago
Go to your pantry and get a jar with one and then read the label in full, it tells you on the label to not consume the product if the safety seal is popped.

So does botulism and other bacteria feeding. If a ferment was not intentional, it's best to err on the side of caution and not eat it. Since this isn't typical behavior of a packet of Sriracha at Starbucks and most hot sauces with some sweetness are boiled to stop the ferment, it would be insane to assume any of these packets are safe.

Our display siracha still has the papyrus-like white font and it doesn’t look like this.
DeadDear 15 points 1y ago
I saved one of these bc I thought it was cute. A couple days later it popped on the rest of the srirachas :/

More like f i r m e n t e d
sqwiwarg 11 points 1y ago
Apparently because of quality control issues, the siracha company is temporarily halting production so we might be in for a shortage
