Being hired as a borrowed partner? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mekayla96
So I want to start as a borrowed partner for another store in my area. I don’t believe it’s in the same district but I’m not sure. How do I ask about this? I was planning on just going into the store I want to be hired at but am not sure what to say.

Do you mean transferring or actually being a borrowed partner? If you’re transferring, you find a store that’s willing to accept you and then you have your SM file paperwork that the other SM and any relevant DMs then approve.

If you’re a borrowed partner. There is no such thing as “I was planning on just going into the store I want to be hired.” Borrowed partners are only a last-resort resolution if a store is that severely understaffed. You will be contacted by an SM about opportunities to be a borrowed partner. You can never just “show up” to a store to be a borrowed partner.

My supervisor told me to get hired on as a borrowed partner at another store that I’m thinking about transferring to so that I could get a feel for the environment so I was just confused.

What does “get hired on as a borrowed partner” mean? Your SM means transfer, right? Or are you only *transferring* temporarily?

If you actually want to transfer, then I’d talk to that store’s SM and explain the situation to him/her, but I’d call first to set up a time to discuss it rather than just dropping by.

Okay thanks! Yeah I’m not really sure what she meant by borrowed partner now. Maybe I misunderstood her. Thanks though!

So you are thinking of transferring, but aren’t quite sure yet, so your store manager suggest you to pick up a shift at that store if they have a call-out (someone drops their shift and they can’t find coverage within their stores partners), that’s when they’d then turn to other stores in the district and ask for someone to cover the shift that someone else dropped, at which point you’d then be a “borrowed partner”, essentially you have a home store and other stores in your district can borrow you for a shift if someone from their store can’t take that shift. your SM just wants you to test out the store if the opportunity arises for you to pick up a shift there. you can’t just show up and ask to be borrowed.
