AN IMPORTANT REMINDER NOW THAT SUMMER HAS HIT AND AC WILL BR BROKEN EVERYWHERE!!!!! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Chemical-Less
Hello fellow baristas! We all (in the us at least) have the same type of thermostat in our stores, and we all know that thang sucks shit, and many of us have had to deal w high temperatures bc of this, some even forced to work through them bc of incompetent management

PLEASE do not force yourself to work if the temperature is too high in your store bc of a broken ac (or any reason tbh). Your chances of heat exhaustion will go way up when you are being physically active, and heat injury is no joke

If you are being forced to work under conditions you deem hazardous to your health or safety, make sure you document it (taking a pic of the thermostat is easy enough) and report it to the OSHA website. Its easy to use and submitting a complaint is quick, and gives you the option to not have your information revealed to your employers. Osha is on your side and they do not fuck around. I would advise also reporting it to sbux compliance, but go external first as they are far less likely to sweep it under the rug

Most importantly, stand your ground. STAND YOUR GROUND. DO NOT WORK IN DANGEROUSLY HIGH TEMPERATURES. NO MATTER WHAT YOUR SHIFT OR MANAGER SAYS, IT IS ILLEGAL TO BE MADE TO WORK IN HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS THAT YOU DID NOT CONCENT TO

Be SAFE everyone. I wish you all the best. Fuck anyone who tries to make you work in 80 f+ in store weather. Protect yourself, you are legally backed and cannot be retaliated against about it without serious legal consequences to those who do said retaliation

Peace n love

I’m so fortunate. The first time the AC broke was in winter, and just the other day our AC broke and my manager shut down the store immediately. If you’re managers are not putting you first, put yourself first and call in.

And you can get heat stroke or otherwise suffer physical stress at lower temperatures than you may think. In my state, 77F is the threshold.

Bout to hit the report button right now.

I'd also like to say, if you go into any other store (not just a sbux) and the temperature is not a decent one, please report it. Some of those poor workers feel as unstable (occasionally less) as you guys do and feel they can't report. Do it for them, please!
