Is it weird/allowed for SMs to hang out with their barista staff outside of work? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Just curious because it definitely comes with benefits for those partners. All buddy buddy with them and the SM lets things slide with them :/

I’m not sure if it’s “not allowed”- but in the partner manual you can find a section about conflict of interest- and if the SM is giving special treatment to their friends, then that is not allowed. I’d say contact your DM or ethics and compliance if it’s an issue

commenting because I’m curious as well. My friend’s older brother is my SM (I was hired before he transferred) and I definitely see him outside of work but at work the rules are the rules and that’s that… I feel like it’s not an issue because I’m definitely one of the most reliable employees at our location and haven’t had a single problem with it yet? But I definitely think if the SM is letting friendship interfere with work that’s a problem

No, becuase I hang out with my employees outside of work.. but they all know the rules at work are the rules at work.. sure sometimes I’m super kind and let them get away with stuff but most of the time at work the rules stick

i’m my personal opinion, i think it’s fine. at my last store i was a barista and saw a lot of my coworkers hang out outside of work with SSV’s and now i’m an SSV and i would love to hang out with my baristas from time to time but idk about SM, there might be favoritism going on, especially if they’re allowed to get away with things that others aren’t

It’s not allowed, causes conflict of interest

No

Omg! Do you know where I could find this info? Partner hub?

The specific Versace used is close friends and family, but it’s in the conflicts of interest standard. Searchable on the hub.

It’s definitely a large grey area, but my interpretation is it’s a no. It’s very easy to fall into favoritism and have lines be crossed
