A venti iced latte with self doubt foam (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by DelayAffectionate687
I’ve been working at Starbucks for 2 weeks and just got out of training. Today I made quite a few mistakes. I accidentally spilled coffee in the ice, and apparently made sweet cream wrong. I don’t want to be an issue and my coworkers were so nice about correcting me, I’m just scared I’m making too many mistakes. Like they’ll think I’m more of an inconvenience than anything. And I’m don’t want to tell my parents because I don’t want them to think I’m struggling. I feel like I’m not good enough for this job. Like I’m just a fish out of water at all times. I don’t know maybe I’m being dramatic.

Also a costumer cussed me out in dto for not having matcha and I just stood there like: 🧍‍♀️😐

You've only been there two weeks. Just because you've finished Barista training doesn't mean you'll be batting 1000 on bar at all times. It takes a while to really settle in and get comfortable. If you feel like you're being a hindrance try asking your most experienced partner for some tips. Just hang in there and keep practicing your beverage and cleaning cycles and you'll be fine

Wow can't believe you let your store run out of matcha

there’s a lot to remember when becoming a barista, so don’t be discouraged! ask questions and take your time. your coworkers were green beans once too so they know how it is, you’re not an inconvenience! it’s taken people months at my store to get situated enough to be on bar ! i used a quizlet and took a picture of the back up list to learn how to make everything, it just takes time !

Completely normal.. when I First started I felt the same way.. it just takes time like everything does in life., I train my employees with patients because as supervisor /barista trainer, not everybody is going to be a fast learner.. so it’s totally fine .
Relax
Ask questions
And try not to over think because the over thinking and stressing leads to the errors

When I first started with Starbucks it took me literally an entire summer to feel comfortable with the drinks and everything. There’s a lot to learn and know, don’t feel like you have to be a flawless barista in just two weeks

You're doing great! It's only been 2 weeks, it's all still so new to you. When I was new, I spilt an entire container of frap roast mid peak all over the counter and floor, did the same with a mocha, knocked over countless Fraps in drive, just anything that causes a mess really. You'll get the hang of it and find your own flow 😊 I believe in you

if u ever feel afraid to ask questions or wanna double check your work, on ur break or when it’s slow go to the ipads store resources!!! all recipes & “how tos” can be found there. beverage cards, dating, how to make cold brew, etc…..
lilmissambersue 2 points 1y ago
You are doing great, a few mistakes means nothing. You are trying and you care and that's all you can do! I made cold brew wrong the other day and the whole thing had to be dumped. I BROKE one if the espresso machines my first month in. I make at least one drink wrong every shift.
I've been a partner since Februaury and I just barely feel like I know what I'm doing.
Also, I worked at a DT and cried 2 times. I've never cried at a Cafe store. Lol DTs are brutal in my opinion, so just be patient and kind to yourself. I'm sure you're doing much better than you realize.

Ok so:

>I accidentally spilled coffee in the ice

Have you not seen the countless amounts of posts of people spilling things?

$1 $1 $1 $1 $1 $1

Everyone spills things. Stuff moves fast at Starbucks, it's easy to just twirl around to start on a drink and accidentally slap a pitcher or carton or box of ingredients and liquids all over the place. All you can do is say "Fuck, my bad." and laugh as a team. I promise you, your partners spilled things. It happens and it's going to happen. It's how you process it and handle it.

>Apparently made sweet cream wrong

I can't remember how the new training looks but as far as the older training, it has NEVER taught you how to make drink inclusions, only the main drink.

I did my 2 weeks and was immediately thrown into my home store and everyone expected me to know how to make whipped cream. Shift leader at the time had to show me after I told her I've never made it before. I'm sure it's already a struggle with how complicated drink recipes are, but now you have to learn and remember how to make whipped cream and sweet cream? It's gonna suck for a bit. But it's just memorizing and muscle memory.

Technically, Starbucks training is 90 days. You do 2 weeks of unsupervised/supervised videos and Powerpoints and the rest of it is shift leads and management shadowing/watching you and being there for you to make sure that you get it and help when needed/asked.

I'm sure your shifts are reporting to your SM about your progress so if anything, shoot them a call/text or talk in person and explain how you're feeling about the position and they will provide feedback, but I'm sure they're going to say exactly what I just said. Everyone spills things and it takes longer than 2 weeks to memorize every, god-forsaken-damn thing on the menu.

Nah you’re not doing bad at all. I’ve been doing this for almost two years and I still mess things up from time to time. You’ll get so good at it that it’ll be like second nature after awhile. Also don’t mind the customers that yell about us being out of things, there’s quite literally nothing we can do about shortages.

If it's your first time being a barista give yourself 2 months. If you don't get it by then.. okay yeah.. but 2 weeks , naw you still got learning and practicing to do. You will get it I promise if you make it two months you will be golden. The customers are the worst. Blank stare and look at their shoes.. makes them mad uncomfortable lol 🤣 that's what I do when they are yelling.
