store temperature (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by HistoricalLeave9587
i’m rather new and still in my training shifts, so i’m not sure if this is normal, but today i worked 8 hours while it was 100 degrees outside, and it barely felt any warmer inside!! i have POTS which causes me to faint often and i was REALLY struggling to not pass out while working on cold bar in the heat. my condition is undisclosed as of right now and i work another 8 hour shift tmrw and am super concerned about the store temperature, i honestly think it was probably 90-95 in the store. our frappuccinos were melting instantly and super watery, and the shaken espressos melted the ice way more than usual which caused a lot of customer complaints as well.

is anyone else’s store like this right now? i genuinely am unsure if this is just normal for the summer or if i should be concerned, i’m not sure i can handle working 8 hours in these temperatures.

You need to take a pic of the thermostat in the back and report it to osha immediately for sure. Assuming you're in the us, each state has its own guidelines about working conditions regarding temperatures and such. the store should NEVER be open in those conditions

our stores get really hot too.. i brought it up and my shift basically said to get used to it. But sometimes a diff shift will lower the temp…
I close the blinds and it helps a little- even though that’s technically not allowed…
i’d probably go the route of starting an annoying process of getting a letter of accommodation for POTS — because then there’s no chance of anyone forcing you to work in heat, it’s not in your job description (id think, anyway, i’ve gotten accommodation for things not in my job description that cause me pain)
