Some stores are already charging $1 for water now.. wasn’t that supposed to start in august? Cause I have gotten customers complaining (self.starbucksbaristas)

i hate customers asking for waters at handoff during peak and rushes too but $1 for tap water is crazy to me and only gonna encourage them to ask at handoff. and when you work for a company that lets their customers get free things when they throw tantrums i’m pretty sure we’re gonna still give it out for free to “make the moment right”

Wait we’re charging for water now 😆 how’s i miss that
crzyshiba [OP] 9 points 1y ago
Haha yes so if you have your own cup the water is free but if you have no cup it is $1, cause they are charging you for the cup.
Comfortable-Plane944 16 points 1y ago
I don’t think it’s legal for them to do that in some states like mine. It’s a health thing
Responsible_Snow7109 10 points 1y ago
Wait so what if customers still go up to the hand off area at the stores that are guna be doing this and what if they get upset at the charge for the water cup, do u guys have to "make the moment right" or make them go pay for it at the register? Lol cuz u kno people are guna act like they forgot to ask when ordering
Suspicious_Wiener 6 points 1y ago
Sucks to suck. I'm making em pay for that water, but only bc I'm petty and hate when they ask me on bar😂
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 1y ago
Lol yea they choose the most busiest person in the store and ask them. Its a bit insane
crzyshiba [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Oh damn that’s sooo true
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 1y ago
Lol theyre guna throw fits at the hand off area when they come to find out of the new charge or if they dont kno about it and told they have to pay, they will sometimes also throw a fit. So then starbucks will be like "just give it to them, mAkE tHe MoMeNt RiGhT"

ok but this would only really benefit the company. this makes baristas lives even harder bc they’re going to be the ones berated by customers while howard sits untouched on his golden ceo seat. it’s annoying for customers to ask for water at handoff, but being annoying AND being rude because you have to tell them water costs money? no thanks

Charging for water is always ablelist in my opinion
deepfriedmeme420 1 points 1y ago
How ???? What the heck???? If anything it's classist, but ableist?
krty98 10 points 1y ago
I don’t care what policy is I will never charge for a cup of water. Water is a human right and should never be charged for. They pay less than a penny per cup.
fuwaldah 10 points 1y ago
Do you work for a licensed store? Corporate stores don't charge for water and there are no plans to change that in the future.
cats_with_tentacles 7 points 1y ago
I've read that if/when they start to roll out the rent a cup system they'll start charging for water
fuwaldah -12 points 1y ago
You didn't read that at Starbucks. There are currently no plans to roll out a rent a cup system, nor will we charge for water.
cats_with_tentacles 8 points 1y ago
$1. Last I heard it was only at certain test stores

Corporate store also in my area they started charging already
Environmental_Tea297 4 points 1y ago
I feel like it's more of a plastic waste charge, we should give the first one free.
Edit: the resource that's the issue is not the water it's the plastic.

There are folks that need water for medical reasons due to hydration, medicine taking, ect. Charging a person for water is therefore inaccessible and ablelist
crzyshiba [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Apparently it’s $1 for the cup to get water but if you bring your own it’s free .. so I wonder if eventually that will be everywhere

What?! I love this!!!
Comfortable-Plane944 16 points 1y ago
You love that we’re going to be charging people for something everyone is entitled to so the corporation can make even more money?
Affectionate_Fart 3 points 1y ago
I love that they’ll enforce going to the actual register instead of approaching the bar when I have 50 drinks to make and demanding I stop my flow and get stared down for not dropping everything to grab an ice cup and fill it with water…
