I imagine that people will still be buying their daily or weekly Starbucks regardless of a recession. Just think about it, most of the country was shut down at the beginning of Covid but Starbucks thrived. I do not think we have anything to worry about.

I worked during the 2008 recession. They closed a lot of stores and they laid off a ton of ASMs. We had a hiring freeze, like everyone else in the country did.
People had money during covid because the government was sending them thousands of dollars and they came to Starbucks because they needed about 30 seconds of normalcy in their day. I wouldn’t compare the situations, but we’ll see how it goes!

I see your point and it’s very fair. I was fortunate in 2008 to work in an industry that suffered but stayed afloat. Thank you for broadening my perspective. Either way, I find it best to not worry too much but to prepare for all possibilities!

To be clear, it was a tough time everywhere, but Starbucks pulled through it even stronger. I don’t think we have anything to worry about, I think that it will effect relatively few people. It’s not something I would lose sleep over, and anxiety is my middle name 😝

Edited to clarify, I mean few jobs will be eliminated. Also, I do think Starbucks will help us navigate it.

They aren’t even supporting us now. They’re actively trying to take away benefits in efforts to stop us unionizing. Most recently they’ve made moves to end the benefits for our trans partners and the medical benefits offered to them for surgeries.
