Does this really annoy you?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Apprehensive-You5261
So I was on DTO and hand off yesterday and one thing that really annoyed me was the customers that would order a tall or grande refresher or tea with no ice and then AFTER they pay for the drink are like can I get a venti cup of ice 💀. There’s a huge part of me that wants to say no because they’re essentially getting a venti or trenta drink for the price of a tall. Which means we have to put more effort and get paid less because customers essentially trying to rip us off.
Also those customers that order a grande and then after they pay and we go to hand them the drink are like I asked for a venti. No you asked for a grande and everyone heard it. I even repeated your order back to you and you said it was correct. People did this a lot with the blended thing after they started charging saying oh I asked for it blended after I rung them up and they paid. Honestly if you do that shit with the sizes I’m just going to throw your grande drink in a venti cup and add more ice. If you’re nice I won’t but 99% of the time the people that do this are very rude and hostile when you say we all heard you say grande.

One time a lady got a grande drink and i handed it to her after I made it and she said " this was supposed to be a venti. I guess I didn't say that" and she wasnt rude or anything but its like yea i guess you didn't say that because just cuz you thought about a venti size in your head doesn't mean that that's what it was "supposed" to be. U got charged for and received a grande cuz thats what u said and I know it for a fact because I'm on autopilot asking every single customer for what size they you want. So you paid for a grande and you received a grande. It's not like you paid for a bigger size and received a smaller size. So you pay for a grande and that's what you got so if you want a bigger size than I will more than half a week refund you because that was no mistake on our end. It was just her forgetting to say what size she wanted or very conveniently not saying anything until she received her drink

I hate people who basically order a latte without ordering a latte
A double shot of espresso with some syrup and extra milk. I make sure I don't fill it all the way up and if they complain I remind them they didn't pay for a full drink
jelizt13 points1y ago
I’ve just started putting a ridiculous amount of ice so it looks full. Add ice to the cup that already has shots and syrup>give it a swirl so the espresso chills>add even more ice>then milk

honestly cheaper and tastes better than a latte imo

How about caring about the people working? You can order that ahead and not ask for it at the window.
accountedthrowaway520 points1y ago
same i agree, i don’t particularly get annoyed about the no ice drinks. i just get annoyed that they wait until they get to the window to ask for multiple cups of ice when they could just… order that at the speaker
Apprehensive-You5261 [OP]1 points1y ago
That’s what I mean. I hate when I’m doing dto and hand off then they come with this crap that they want a water or a cup of ice after I rang them up and am taking another order espeically at peak.
trbpanda12 points1y ago
cant wait to see what these people start trying to pull when we have to charge them for putting drizzles around their cups
Tvdrone1611 points1y ago
Yeah since there's a blended button now, I just charge them at the window. They normally just say NVM and take it and go. The customers that do this, know exactly what they're doing.
Apprehensive-You5261 [OP]1 points1y ago
That girl that said she wanted her drink blended at the window did this to me. I told her I could have them remade. I could refund her and add the double blended and she said oh I’ll just take it as is 💀

I used to deal with this really bitchy lady all the time. She ordered a Trenta SAR with no ice and no water. With a trenta cup of ice on the side. she was probably the most arrogant rude regular that we had. I got tired of her and told her that we were only allowed to do light ice because we were losing a lot of money on product. and she would only get a tall cup of ice. Idk what her problem was but after she made my coworker cry, I was just done with her..

The best thing you can do while working at Starbucks is to practice radical acceptance. I cannot afford to direct any of my energy towards getting upset at customers for these behaviors. I know that's hard in practice (I've been working on it for 10+ years) but I promise it is worth it!
francescugh7 points1y ago
some ppl bring red bulls w them to mix in with it. they’re rlly good w refreshers.
Noobplzforgive5 points1y ago
I think eventually they'll be charged for cups of ice as well as water. So if it makes you feel better, u can let em know with a smile that they should enjoy it while it's still free.

at my store we started telling people that we weren’t allowed to fill the drinks up to the top if they asked for no ice, or top it off with light ice. they get what they order, no more. if they throw a fit, we explain to them that it’s what they paid for.
Apprehensive-You5261 [OP]2 points1y ago
They should start letting us charge them for the size they really wanted to get lol I’d love to see the look on someone’s face after telling them the total lol

Starbucks is a multi billion dollar business, who cares if they get ripped off??
makamotic13 points1y ago
It actually cuts into our labor! I’m not too sure of the specifics of labor but I was to ring up every water and ice cup even if we don’t have to charge them because it effects how much we get paid in labor :)
Apprehensive-You5261 [OP]3 points1y ago
THIS!!! so many people don’t know this. If the customer rips the company off they rip us employees off it cuts into our hours because then they “can’t afford to pay us” or whatever so we get our hours cut and less money a week. I don’t really care if you rip a multi billion dollar company off but I do care when it comes to me getting hours and getting paid
Darillis0 points1y ago
Except you get paid in dollars, not labor. Sounds like you’re a wannabe manager.
LordMiscreant3 points1y ago
The amount of labor tells you how many hours the SM can give out to partners, it's like the warming that also bumps up the labor numbers.
Darillis-1 points1y ago
Yes I’m aware how to manipulate the system.
Darillis-12 points1y ago
Yeah I’ve never cared about billion dollar companies giving away extra stuff.
sevsbinder0 points1y ago
starbucks bot baristas downvoting you but you're right
Darillis1 points1y ago
Also, I got 150+ upvotes already today on another sub.
Darillis1 points1y ago
Right? As if they’re getting any of the record profits.
heyitsmaria243 points1y ago
Starbucks is usually done by district. My district lost sales, so my district manager told my manager to cut our labor aka hours to make up for it. While you would think a big company would do something about it… they do not.

> I get *paid* $15.5 wether
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
New-Ad43640 points1y ago
to be honest i don’t really care about it that much, i’d so the same thing bc starbucks is a rip off lmao
Apprehensive-You5261 [OP]2 points1y ago
You do know that this eventually trickles down to us employees right. I don’t care if you rip a multi billion dollar company off but it does effect the amount of hours we get less hours equals less money and a lot of partners live pay check to pay check and can’t afford to lose hours.
