My manager made our newest partner a trainer after 2 months...(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Dazzling_Pop_7073
This is something that has been the talk between me and my partners. No I'm understands why our manager is so obsessed with this partner. He is slow on bar and extremely cocky and condescending to other partners. As a barista, after only a month at Starbucks, started telling me when to clock in and clock out. He also had told me to do my covid check , and watched me as I completed the questions and made me show him my results. I was absolutely taken aback he was acting that way, to someone who has been working there so much longer. I found out last week he is now training the new hire. He was just hired and trained 2 months ago and is now going to be training our newest hire. Why wouldn't she pick a partner that is confident in the job and actually knows all the ins and outs. He still asks questions and makes mistakes on bar, as many new partners do ( totally understandable ), so he shouldn't be training? It seems he kissed the managers ass and she is infatuated with this dude. He's extremely hard to work with, what do I do? I'm scared he will be promoted to SSV next.

Speak to someone higher in the business until your concerns are heard

Thank you! I plan on addressing it soon and I have a few coworkers who also want to address it

They are probably planning to promote them.... do they have previous experience as supervisors somewhere else? Or maybe they're slowly working towards ASM and the manager has them going through the process at a slower pace than normal.

No the kid is 19 and has only worked as a cashier at a go kart place before this:)

Nepotism is the answer then.

A little update if anyone is interested, we got a new manager and he hasn't been promoted to SSV like our last manger told us he would be . His hours have been cut in half and the new manager isn't going to play those bs games

Good for you! That's wrong of them to expect you to train at a barista pay... hell no 😂

omg something similar just happened at my store… some people who started when i did (two months ago) were just promoted and i know for a fact they are not ready. thankfully they’re nice but i’m worried i’m gonna be really really annoyed when i know something they don’t (as has already happened) and it’s gonna make me resent this job when i really like it right now 😫 in your situation, i think you and your coworkers should approach your DM with your concerns because i doubt they’re gonna want someone incompetent running the floor and hurting the store

I addressed my concerns a month ago and she brushed it off telling me he was acting the way he acted (controlling and condescending) bc he was trying to be a leader but still learning. She then preceded to make home a barista trainer within a couple weeks of our connecting.
