this made me feel a bit guilty (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by fynnellis
i’m a starbucks barista in the uk. a coworker and i we’re on bar, and as she was setting up drinks for me, a guy who was waiting for his drink stood a bit too close to our syrup stand and got a bit of splash back from
the syrup. for context, we’re a kiosk, so there’s no barriers between people queueing and our bar except the counter. he immediately popped his head over and said something along the lines off “the syrup just got on me”. a little more context, i’ve felt incredibly sick for the past few days, and today was a busy saturday with me feeling at my shittest. so i didn’t really acknowledge it and kept working since my coworker apologised. he then proceeded to say “is that all i get? an apology?” to them which i offered something to clean his head, which i don’t believe he heard. he then asked for our manager, to which he complained that we had poor customer service for just apologising. apparently he wasn’t upset about the incident, rather our reactions. i feel a bit guilty, as i do try and do my best with customer service but at the same time, i don’t feel he was being very considerate of our position as baristas that he was the one who got too close as were doing our job. would be interested to hear what you would have done, i know i’d definitely try and be a bit more forward with solutions, and maybe a bit less ill lol

You shouldn't feel guilty. It was his fault for standing too close. What did he expect from you, to clean his head for him? He's fine.

As someone who has thrown a green tea latte all over me and a customer…………y’all are nicer than me. My response was “oops. You were too close and I sherked myself.”
