I feel like the dress code already allows for a pretty wide array of things to be worn. Some stuff will never get approved because of food handling regulations. A scarf would likely need to be tightly wrapped as something flowing like that presents all types of hazards in the environment we work in

there are districts that don’t require headwear at all lol. i don’t think a sensible headscarf would just catch on fire. our work place is not *that hazardous*

How you feel doesn’t really matter when your talking about federal standards. Starbucks didn’t come up with this stuff out of their ass. I’m also pretty confident that scarves are allowed as per the current dress code

They are already in discussions about changing dress code but they allow hijabs and head coverings for natural hair already. But certain things will never be allowed due to food safety.I know a lot of baristas want to be cute and wear jewelry and bracelets but it’s a food safety hazard you’re at work we don’t need to look cute all the time.

never said anything about jewelry or any of that. idk how a hat is more food safe than a scarf. i was just asking for tips. i know a few partners who are experiencing hair loss from wearing hats so much. there’s a lot of gain to be made from allowing more comfortable and inclusive headwear

They already allow head scarfs? I’m confused they did an about awhile ago because partners of color who had natural hair could not wear regular hats and so they added headscarves to the dress code. As for hair lossUnfortunately it’s an occupational hazard it’s the same when I was a server and worked in the kitchen you either have to have your hair up or wear a hat both of which cause hair loss same with scarves it’s tension Alopecia The only advice I have for those who are losing hair is to try to make whatever hairstyle or head covering looser.

As long as its a head scarf and is not hanging loosely you should already be able to wear it with the current dress code, even around your neck. You can't have anything hanging loosely for food safety and for work hazard reasons. As it is our aprons get stuck in random things and as for food safety it's to prevent anything hanging off and into a drink or food item. If your county has stricter guidelines to follow though that's out of sbux control. For example I've worked in a county where hair needs to be tied up and out of your face always, despite sbux policy being that it only needs to be tied if longer than shoulder length. In those cases local jurisdiction goes above what sbux allows, currently I'm in a county next to where I was and if your hair is shoulder length as long as it's kept back out of your face or from some crazy swinging you can wear it down.

The dress code is ass and these other two replies don’t pass the vibe.

shut up

i wanna wear a sensible graphic t shirt or god forbid stripes or a green top, because it’s really gonna affect customer relations or make the company lose $.
Ordinary-Theory-8289 8 points 1y ago
Starbucks by far has the least restrictive dress code of any place I’ve worked. They’re never gonna allow graphic tees because people could wear in appropriate things, and also Starbucks isn’t trying to represent other brands. It’s pretty fair i think. Sorry that Starbucks has to follow food safety regulations lol

"1 facial piercing permitted" LOL
Ordinary-Theory-8289 1 points 1y ago
Okay? I’ve never seen this enforced, and there’s plenty of places who won’t allow you to have any facial piercings at all
PAINED_EARS 1 points 1y ago
Ive seen it enforced plenty and that second point doesn't really matter cause its a silly rule to begin with, especially for a company thats supposed to be about expression and progression.

have you read the dress code?

your reply literally just screams “im a corporate butt kisser”

wearing a graphic or logo t with a flower print will not affect my job or the company. I even said “sensible,” implying it would be work appropriate. let’s use our critical thinking skills yeah?

leggings won’t affect food safety
a green shirt won’t affect food safety
a graphic t won’t affect food safety
socks won’t affect food safety
not wearing only black, white, brown, grey or khaki colored shirt won’t affect food safety.

Mmm hot americano spilled on my leggings instead of jeans sounds like a real nice burn.
chinksauces 1 points 1y ago
hmm hot grease from sandwiches, egg bites or especially from grill cheese sandwiches gave me 1st degree burn on my arm for 3 weeks, even though I was following dress code and wore a solid colored shirt.
Ordinary-Theory-8289 3 points 1y ago
Leggings are not permitted in any food service establishment lol
