Got sent home instead of sick partner, what will happen? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by badtimesman00
As a result of the covid coach app survey thingy, a partner today was "recommended" to wear a mask but they could still work. It was handed to them, and they put it down...put it on...took it off...on, off...threw it away.

I sent messages to my SM and DM stating:

"I told my shift I wasn't comfortable working with people who aren't following their "coach" and the shift decided to send me home. I sincerely hope this does not affect my attendance."

Am I going to be written up or fired for leaving suddenly?

You won’t be fired if your shift sent you home (I.e. you didn’t just walk out). I don’t know how Covid is in your country but in mine, no one has to wear a mask unless they want to. Sick partners usually don’t (I always do because I’ve never been so healthy for so long!). I imagine if I said I wasn’t able to work around sick people not wearing masks I might not be fired directly but I could see my shifts disappearing off the rota/my SM would probably have a conversation about how the job is working with people - you can’t make people wear masks if it’s only a recommendation. You have to be okay with the risks of working around other people.

I hope this gets resolved for you! But if you need to be 100% Covid safe, you might need to decide as a store if masks will be strictly enforced, so you can decide if you are okay working with sick maskless people.

Why was a mask recommended?

I believe it recommends a mask if you show minor covid symptoms when doing the covid coach
