I was just informed by my coworkers/sm that our hours will be getting cut again??? I’m going from 39 hours to 29. I know I don’t have it the worst but what the fuck???

Most Starbucks locations are doing that. Nobody at my store gets more than 23 hours. Corporate pretty much is trying to cut costs. I believe it’s because of the economy and possible recession. Most businesses are starting to prepare. I have a friend who works as a human resource person, and she says they had to lay people off already.

Local mom and pop places having a hard time, sure.
Johnson was paid over $20 million dollars last year alone. But sure, let's cut our labor to save costs.

They’re not having a hard time now. I said *when* the recession occurs IF it happens. That’s where even big companies have a hard time keeping profits. Small business will most likely close down. Unemployment rates are high. It’s basic economics. Last time, banks even had a hard time keeping their money. A lot of them have insurance, so your money won’t necessarily be lost.
All I’m saying is companies are financially preparing for this. As a business major who specializes in accounting, it’s a smart move. It doesn’t benefit employees but the company absolutely. Think about it. They cut your hours and hire more employees with cut hours as well. They’re paying the same amount in labor with more quantity added.
It doesn’t sound fair ethically… but business wise, it’s a smart move. Starbucks knows that.

Wait your SM edited your punch to say you left earlier than you did?!? That is highly illegal!! Report it immediately!

Please report this to ethics and your district manager she is stealing money from you

Report your manager now. You were working at that time, they are stealing money from you. Take pictures of the changed punches. You are entitled to that money, no matter what.
If they changed it to non-coverage, that’s different. Youll still be getting paid the same amount, it just allows them to have more hours on the floor. But if not, do NOT care about your manager and their job, they are stealing money from you and a LOT of other people probably. You deserve better.

I highly recommend that. If you go to corporate or HR, they will only care about saving face. However, do make sure you are careful! If they find out you’re doing this, you can get terminated. It’s happened to me before (not at starbucks, but at Coldstone lol).

In this case saving face would involve terminating the SM who is putting the whole organization at risk if significant fines
nutria_twiga3 points1y ago
Oh hell no. I'd find another (closer to home) gig.

If you worked you need to be paid. This is highly illegal and your SM should be terminated immediately if this is true. Even if they didn’t ask you to stay and you just decided to not clock out and continue working in your own volition, you need to be paid.
