stepping down from SSV (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by converse_ing
I was wondering if anyone wanted to share their experiences with going from a shift back to a barista.
I really enjoy the job, but the stress isn't worth it. So I'm considering instead of leaving the store ,just going back to barista. I know it will be hard but I think it would be best for me.

So I quit last year as an SSV, and am now trying to be rehired as a barista. I guess it wouldn’t technically be stepping down from SSV because I quit and am coming back, but it’s kinda like stepping down? Anyways, I feel like I’m someone who’s best suited for helping the team rather than leading and delegating the shift, so I’m gonna be extremely relieved to be a barista again.

Whenever I ran the shift my stress would eat me alive and I felt like I wasn’t suited for the role of an SSV. I don’t like to lead, I don’t like deciding the organization of the shift. I thrive off of helping the SSV in charge and fellow baristas, and tbh I prefer being told where to be/what to do. I think it’s gonna be a huge relief to be a barista again, and I hope it’ll be the same for you. Being an SSV was waaaay too much for me, it used to make me feel physically sick. I think going back to being a barista and getting to support the team more rather than leading it will really help me. Good luck, wishing you all the best! ✨

Thank you, I appreciate it. I enjoy the opportunity to lead, however I realize and have discussed with my GM. My tone can be short/blunt. Typically there are no hard feelings behind it and I will admit when I'm wrong. Or felt like I might have put too much fire on it.
Either way I'm starting to feel like a villain, I expect a lot, which I've learned from experience makes everyone's lives easier. I'm 34 , I'm 10+ years older than 85% of the store.
I really love the job, I've been in customer service forever. Maybe I should just worry about me.

I can relate. I also tend to on the older side of the store, and I know for sure I need to just worry about me. It’s a lot being an SSV, and as someone who’s already prone to anxiety and stress, it’s just not the right combo. I want to get everything done, but also make sure everyone is having a good shift, it ain’t easy. I think it’s helpful to expect a lot, and I’d say give yourself come credit, it’s a really difficult task trying to figure out how to approach each partner specifically and make sure everyone is happy. I’m sure you’re an amazing partner and your team is so lucky to have you 😊
