Nitro cold brew with ice or no ice? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Character_Term_3320
So I was at work one day like everyone else and this customer comes up to to the store and orders a nitro cold brew with ice, I corrected them with everyone hearing on the headset that we cannot put ice in a nitro but will gladly give them a cup of ice on the side, my ssv said I was crazy and can put ice in a nitro, well.. am I wrong? Or was I just causing a misunderstanding with everyone including the customers lol

we’ve done it for customers who ask

If I’m not mistaken, the cap is grande because of the nitrogen gas. So putting the amount of a grande size in a venti cup with ice should be no problem. And yes you should be able to add shots because you aren’t adding more nitro.

When it comes to nitro, I usually just do whatever customer says because they either know exactly what they want or have no clue and either way it’s the best way to make them happy

The standard is no ice for a nitro because it gets in the way of the foam. So ice kind of defeats the purpose of the nitro. *But* I don’t see a reason why we can’t give a customer one with ice as long as we aren’t giving them any more nitro than the grande size. No ice in the nitro isn’t really a safety standard, just a standard to enhance the quality of the beverage, so I don’t see why we can’t go around it as long as we’re still capping the amount of nitro we give. You could inform the customer about how the ice will affect the nitro if you feel inclined to. We throw a lot of beverage standards out the window upon customers’ customization requests every day anyway, so I’m fine with serving the nitro with ice when requested as long as it’s under the aforementioned conditions

but i also have a nitro question!!

i thought we couldn’t put nitro in anything larger than a grande cup. period.

one ssv told me that is true but one day someone tried to order a grande nitro in a venti cup and top it off with ice. i said we can’t put it in a venti cup only grande. my ssv in charge said we can we just can’t give more ounces than in a grande.

soooo i’m confused, someone please clarify.

also can we do add shots in nitro? i thought no but ssv said yes.

This is one of those “make the moment right” versus integrity of the drink. My understanding when nitro first came out that absolutely no putting it in anything but a tall or grande cup. The drink was designed at optimal flavor to be dispensed by those measurements and then consumed. Whether it’s just a line from corporate or not I just go with it. I let the customer know it’s policy/standard that I can’t but I’d be happy to give them a venti cup with ice on the side.

The standard is tall or grande cup, they can add ice to those but by standard can not put it in a venti cup even with ice, some stores make the moment right and will make it in a venti with ice some stores won’t. We personally do not stray from the standard but it kind of is a store by store decision, I would talk to your SM and ask them what they would want you to do.
