What’s does “Line The Cup” actually mean? 🤔 (2nd picture goes more into detail about my question)(reddit.com)

From what I understand, line the cup just means drizzle inside the cup, and ex drizzle means on top.
Responsible_Snow710960 points1y ago
Yep, this! They added the "line the cup" button to mean for lining the cup so that "extra caramel drizzle" can specifically be reserved for on top of the drink so it can be a consistent outcome
darkwolf52313 points1y ago
Oh is that what it is? I was confused when I read this lmao
1_Just_Trying0 points1y ago
Yeah, it was in the training
MrsClaireUnderwood95 points1y ago
This is just more corporate attempting to solve a problem that nobody was saying was a problem.
Like of all the things to change on the order screen, let alone company-wide change lol.
_circuts15 points1y ago
Honestly im forseeing a caramel shortage...
blackboynxtdoor3 points1y ago
My store is already one. We didn't get any in our order, so we've been using dark caramel in place of regular caramel. 😑😑
bunnibunn045 points1y ago
I think one problem with the line the cup system is that a lot of customers, at least where I am, expect "extra drizzle" to include around the cup. This means that whenever someone asks for it, I have to specify, "just on top or around the cup as well?" Which just complicates things more.
ofCourseZu-ar1 points1y ago
I usually just ask the customer to be more specific like you're saying here. I think what would be best moving forward is to inform customers "there's a new way to order modifiers" and go on to explain "line the cup" vs "extra drizzle". I'd honestly only tell this to regulars who often get extra drizzle all around.
Most other customers will catch on when they see the sticker and/or when hearing that there's a difference for the first time. Or third....eighth...200th time???
bonersz38 points1y ago
there's actually a new standard for extra caramel drizzle! you'll see a brief explanation when you do the summer 2 launch training on mylearning. basically when a customer asks for extra caramel drizzle, you'll use the "line the cup" button. when on bar, you'll do 3 rings of caramel around the rim(?) area of the cup so that it creates walls of caramel instead of the little swirly ribbons around the cup if that makes sense. the reason we're doing it like this now is so that there's more consisitency when ppl ask for extra drizzle i guess? doing the walls instead of the swirlies just ensures that everyone is getting the same amount of "extra" if that makes sense lolol
dazedandconfusedhere31 points1y ago
This isn’t 100% true - line the cup and extra drizzle are separate options.
Extra drizzle = more drizzle on top. Line the cup = 3 rings around the cup
It’s to give a more clear modifier for customers who want caramel walls vs just drizzle on top!
ObnoxiousR5 points1y ago
I put like 87
cpv_910 points1y ago
This is sooooooooooo fucking stupid. Each store has their customers and their likes and dislikes. Our customers (we've been here 18+ years) have an expectation when they ask for extra caramel. They expect walls with caramel and extra on top. This new 'standard' is not going to change what we deliver to our regulars as I will not be remaking drinks during peak. Corporate can go stick it where the sun don't shine. That's my PSA for the day.
0x52and1x522 points1y ago
change averse people be like
cpv_910 points1y ago
You down vote me but is it really my fault that I know my super needy customers and that I'm not going to fight with them and try to change them after all these years.
I been at this way too long to not to know which fights are worth picking.
peepeepoopaccount28 points1y ago
Apparently it’s drizzle on the side but you’re supposed to do three circles w your hand?? It’s a specific technique that we don’t get paid enough to actually care about
LY-_-24 points1y ago
So line the cup doesn’t include on top right? So like a mocha and line the cup with caramel would just be around the cup not on top? And extra caramel would be be more on top?
keldaaahh18 points1y ago
holy fack why have they made things so complicated since i quit working there 😂
_circuts11 points1y ago
Because they're striving for ✨🌈simplicity🌈✨
keldaaahh1 points1y ago
lol so they make it more complicated 😂
FairProfessional011 points1y ago
I’m confused on what to press when someone wants caramel around the cup AND on top. Line the cup w/ caramel, extra caramel drizzle, or do I press both?
b99__throwaway7 points1y ago
if it’s something that doesn’t normally have caramel & they want it on top and the cup i would just press caramel drizzle and line the cup ( but not extra caramel drizzle), but i haven’t tested prices yet to see what that looks like for the wallet lol
Appropriate_Ad286211 points1y ago
Its a different charge
EmMacca10 points1y ago
In Canada, we’ve always called it “cali style” meaning: ‘ca’ramel ‘li’ning on the walls of the cup, before pouring the milk/frap/etc in. I usually do little loopy designs to make it pretty.
quickthinxallthots10 points1y ago
we get customers coming here who ask for cali style and i never knew what it meant! thank you!
broookeee_6 points1y ago
Are customers actually going to say this? If they ask for extra drizzle will we still hit that button?
criedtrying5 points1y ago
what the fuck they needa remove it just charge for extra caramel drizzle
floofxs25 points1y ago
Ugh fun ruiners at corporate - is there no individuality at all? The drizzle swirls look cool.
North-Nectarine91385 points1y ago
Honestly, if “they” would just STOP changing our screens- i wouldn’t care who gets charged what…. For all’s sake- quit changing the screen!!!!
quickthinxallthots5 points1y ago
i heard it was so they could charge more for the "extra extra extra drizzle" but, and i wasnt on dto today so take this w a grain of salt, i glanced at the screen once and there wasnt a charge for it but there was for the drizzle so i might just be dumb as shit
cosmicmoonpierx4 points1y ago
this is a good question, i like that you care about the attention to detail. *answer at bottom not to be “that shift”, but did any of y’all do your summer training? 😂😂🔬haha all jokes aside, i know that at a lot of the bigger stores with heavier traffic, but especially the ones with busy drive thrus, aren’t often very on top of My Learning when it comes to their partners. i’m lucky enough to be in a cafe only
answer: it’s 3 lines of caramel drizzle in the cup, the summer 2 training includes a helpful video demo!
RudeEstimate22453 points1y ago
Bestie did you guys not do your summer trainings? ☺️ It is essentially "extra" but like the button exists so it's consistent at every store price and like amount wise there's a technique for it but like that really just means extra in the cup
cswtf3 points1y ago
All I know is, when I say extra caramel drizzle, I want that shit in the bottom, on the sides and on the top please and thank yous.
oliveee_oil253 points1y ago
There’s a new way to line the cup too. Should be read in the weekly update thing. You do three rings near the top of the cup and it slowly lines the cup and is to be more consistent among all stores. However if you have mediocre caramel bottles then that’s another story.
DianaSilverthorn3 points1y ago
This is because I actually contemplated ending the lives of people who ordered light extra caramel.
What they meant was, they wanted a light swirl of caramel around the cup, but how am I supposed to type that in? It wouldn't print
TemplarSensei73 points1y ago
Ah, so it’s no longer the extra drizzle.
Riversbewild2 points1y ago
Paint
overturned232 points1y ago
they added these buttons… i’m so happy. i haven’t worked since sunday (vacation) so I haven’t even tried the new drink
Affectionate_Fart2 points1y ago
Does anyone know if “line the cup” has an “extra” button?? Like “ex line cup”.
Binx_da_gay_cat8 points1y ago
No, you can't do that. Found that by accident earlier on POS when I was trying to do extra caramel drizzle and instead of "extra caramel drizzle" I kept hitting the "extra" button and then the "line the cup" button. I'm an idiot a lot of times.

It’s in the PPK summer two training. Three circles around the top of the cup to allow the carmel to drip down the sides of the cup.
desairologist1 points1y ago
The new OFFICIAL standard for “line the cup” is three rings around the inside of the cup. Otherwise extra is just on the top of the drink, which was the original standard. We are supposed to specify anyways, so this is just an update to the standard.
Aliciarox111891 points1y ago
It in the summer 2 on mylearning
LockAzzy1 points1y ago
When I worked at SBux we cut the tips down on our caramel bottles because people would freak tf out if you didn't put a literal wall of caramel on the cup. The answer is always put more. On top and on the cup.
makimilktea1 points1y ago
The “line the cup” button is for when they say ‘extra caramel/mocha drizzle’
Big-Working91641 points1y ago
Three circular drizzles on the top half of the cup.
Professional-Cat3931 points1y ago
I will keep putting caramel drizzle around the cup for extra caramel drizzle bc thats what our customers are expecting🤷🏼♀️
the1noir1 points1y ago
You put a line of Caramel or mocha drizzle around the rim of the cup so it drips down. You do two layers. That’s the new “extra caramel” button. I think it charges some drinks for it now when it didn’t before.
TylerJ7161 points1y ago
Literally yesterday Mt shift showed me this and apparently this update was in our recent summer training. Me and my coworker did not remember that at all
Swordxxxx1 points1y ago
Like the cup only means 3 rings of caramel or mocha on the inside walls of the cup. Ex caramel means only on top. I had someone order caramel drizzle and walls on a drink that doesn’t get drizzle by standard and it only charges for one of them.
Chaotic_Cat_Boi1 points1y ago
Those cruel humans who demand a wall of caramel on the cup.....
tinydesthique1 points1y ago
lining the cup is just basically creating a few circular ring motions around the inside top of the cup, and the drizzle will begin to fall downwards more into the walls of the cup. i wish i had a video to explain better, but i think in the training module, it briefly tells you how to do that
alyssughjo1 points1y ago
I asked our general manager and she said LTC only, and it’s to be used for drinks that automatically come w it on top. If someone wants “extra” cup and top, then we click both “caramel drizzle” and “line the cup”
alyssughjo2 points1y ago
But I guess who even cares because the online system still offers “extra caramel drizzle” so it’s lawless rn
alyssughjo2 points1y ago
And lining it, instead of zig zigging takes more time and (for me) way more messy and prone to spilling over the sides. I’m over it 😅
