Question about the weekly partner markout (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by LovePrevailsOverAll
I recently started working at a local Canadian Starbucks. I’ve read that we get a weekly markout of coffee bean, although I haven’t been told that by anyone at work. I just wanted to confirm if that’s the case.

I was wondering if I could get a markout at other locations as well? Also, I’d like to get Teavanna Chai Tea instead of the coffee beans, am I allowed to get that for my markout?

I’m also not too familiar with coffee. So if I were to get partners to grind the bean and bring it home, can I just pour the coffee in water like instant coffee? Or am I missing a step?

yes you can markout tea boxes and you can mark out from locations other than your home store!
(source: i'm a partner in the us and i like to mark out boxes of tea for my weekly markout whenever i'm in Canada since we don't sell them here on the shelves here and i don't like coffee)

if you grind whole coffee beans as your mark out you'll have to make it either as a pour over or in a coffee maker since as far as i know Canada doesn't sell instant coffee/iced coffee packets on the shelves
(in my head it's like a swap, Canada gets teavana tea boxes, and America gets instant coffee packets LOL)

We have the Via Instant packets! You can mark those out too!

So a few things:
I’m not a Canadian partner, but you could try to ring it up and then put your numbers to use “partner mark out” on the POS.
B: again with tea, you’ll have to try as you go, if the box rings, awesome!! If not, well who is to say that you don’t get a venti tea as a mark out with 12 bags “on the side” and call it all day. Lol
Additionally, look at the different types of brewing coffee. Some require a filter and some don’t. If you did French press (and use a French press) you wouldn’t have to worry about any filters. I do NOT recommend brewing “metal grind” coffee and pouring it into the cup. Grinds taste nasty.
I would also look into making Turkish coffee, I don’t think that uses a filter either…
Also: look at VIA packets if you’d like an instant coffee.

Wow that’s a clever way to access tea for the markout. That’s good to know and I’ll look into getting a French press for sure. Thanks!

It depends on how “by the book” your store is.
I’ve marked out two venti milks with no ice, sub oat milk to take home an oat milk box before. (Not right, but oh well…I only buy oat milk when it’s on sale…)
