My shift supervisor gets on my nerves when I’m on bar!! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Compliantsnonstop_
When I’m on bar, I know what I’m doing. Personally, I find that soloing on the bar helps me be more productive and diminishes the feeling of someone breathing on my neck. When my shift supervisor joins me on the bar to "help" me catch up, I get irritated because she slows me down. She gets in my way, which slows me down because we only have one ice bin and little counter space. I get that she's trying to help, but it annoys me so much because I would ask for help if I needed it, but I don't, and it bothers me even more since she has this tendency to act like she knows everything. Not to mention she always gets the wrong cup sizes and when I correct her repeated mistake, she says, "Um, are you sure you're getting the right size? I'm sure I read it was a grande." I then show her that it says a venti, she then ignores me and walks away. She will jump in and make all four drinks even if there are only five total, leaving me to handle the fifth. I'm not sure how to politely tell her to fuck off.

I have a couple co-workers who jump on bar and start helping me when I only have a few drinks that I can count on one hand. One time I was on bar and I had one drink on the one espresso machine and another drink on the second espresso machine and one of my coworkers who was sort of a green bean at the time just clocked into her shift and didn't even try to find the shift supervisor to ask her where they wanted her to be placed at and so she just clocks in and comes straight over to bar. Then she stood in front of one of the espresso machines while I was finishing up the drink on the other machine and I ask her if she talked to the shift supervisor yet to see where they want her and she said oh I'll just ask when they come out front again. Like no you're supposed to find them and let them know that you're here and ask if they want you to be somewhere specific. But I told her that I don't need help as I only had two drinks and that I will definitely ask her for help first if I need any and she kept insisting that she wanted to finish the drink. So literally all you wanted to do was put milk and ice in the iced latte? I just didn't understand it

I don’t have any advice, but my coworkers do this too - it really annoys me. Like… stay at your station unless I ask for help lmao. I don’t think they’re doing it to be nice, they’re doing it to do it -_-

The goal is to have customer orders ready at the window before they arrive. Sounds like they’re flexing in to alleviate potential bottlenecks and keep the flow. Both of you need to stay in routine, work together and communicate.

My store isn’t a drive thru. It’s only mobile and cafe. I have plenty of time to make two lattes and a refresher

Just tell her that exactly without being rude lol. Tell her that she's messing up your rhythm and to have her ask if you want help before jumping in
