Tagging onto this, it means the cleaning cycle wasn’t run the night before. Usually stores do this after close to avoid having a machine down for 30+ minutes during business hours. They should run it again after close (even though it was run during the day) to reset the cycle to an appropriate time.

we do run the cleaning cycle daily but since we only have one person to close at night we usually turn off one of our two mastrenas earlier. i think we may have just did the cleaning too early the day before and the cleaning cycle needed to be done again

Maybe they’re in Georgia. Our tech sucks too. Every single week, sometimes several times a week, the machine stops pulling shots and gives us a water flow error or a coffee amount too high error. And every week he says it’s fixed, and it works for about 50 drinks, then does the same exact thing again.

You should be rinsing the machine after 10 drinks with espresso. We constantly have problems with ours and found that helps a lot.

And rinse between different shot types. Which is what you’re supposed to do anyway. But also it preserves the life of the machines.

our tech told us this too and then we had another problem and a new guy came and he told us that rinsing the bar this often wrecks it 😭😂 my sm got mad and said they need to communicate more bc we keep getting told different things. but i think the second guy didn’t know what he was talking about bc i don’t see how rinsing can damage the machine it’s just water going through it lol

i feel seen!! yes!!! ours weren't quite this bad, but we got a ton of errors and our tech would be like "\*shrug\* anyway its fixed now" and then do it again before the week is over.

Yeah that’s when the machine is gonna lock you out if you don’t run a cleaning cycle.

Source: am tech and will recommend that you run tabs after close so you don’t have to worry about running them smack in the middle of a busy day

I’m sorry but I almost immediately knew this was a licensed store, I’ve worked at one too and some important stuff typically gets dismissed. Did you end up getting the machine cleaned?

a lot of stuff i feel like we don’t properly do here… :/ we did end up cleaning it and it was fine! a coworker that works at a licensed store and a drive thru ended up being the one who fixed it up for us not the tech lol

That's funny cause at my old store the machine would litterally only let us clean them once. I now wonder if it was programmed weird. I mean we weren't high volume but we weren't slow either. It was a Cafe store in a casino

I work at a cafe in a casino as well! With these espresso machines i figured as long as you pull 1 shot and then run the cleaning cycle it will do it because it senses it being used

we use the pills to clean the machines, i just think we closed this one earlier in the day the day before we took this photo so it needed to be cleaned earlier than we were expecting.

I've never worked at a Starbucks and I knew what that was. Of course I used to work at a couple of different coffee shops. We cleaned our machines every day at the end of the day, I figured that was standard practice.

I work at an airport Starbucks and in one kiosk they have the old machines, they replaced decaf with blonde on one of the machines. I’m sad that you don’t get the option for blonde shots…personally I prefer them over our espresso.

Our tech has been around for as long as me (at least 15 years) and he’s lovely. This tech must be new! Cut him some slack, these machines are stranger than any I’ve seen lol.

Make sure to have the closers run a cleaning cycle & just for safety, have the openers make sure as well.
