Told my SM my car broke down, she told me to talk the bus to work 🙃 (self.starbucksbaristas)

My SM is sort of a hot mess. It started with her not respecting people's availability slots and other small things. A handful of old shifts and baristas either moved or quit due to disagreements with our SM . Our SM then waited until way too late to start hiring new people. Our store is FILLED with new beans, there are nore people training than there are experienced partners, plus with the understaffing many partners want to leave. Understandably, many partners want to transfer locations but SM straight up denies transfer requests. Recently, my car's engine died and it costs 3 grand (minimum) to get a new one. I cant afford to buy a new car or engine so I told my SM I need to transfer to a store location that I can walk to. SM proceeds to tell me about vague benefits with bus passes and that i cant transfer after the summer. I really couldn't believe she essentially told me to take the bus, it would be a 2.5 hour commute. The DM got involved and allowed me to start the process for transferring but I can't believe the DM had to pull her arm to let me transfer.

The benefit is called communter benefit

Also if she suggested you do the bus does that mean she will pay for it ? Like uber or separate travel expense? That is an option

People have to pay for their own transportation to work.

Wasn't sure cause they have the cup fund and ER thing if u need your pay now and will pay you for miles u help another store...
fuwaldah 1 points 1y ago
Those are things you have to apply for.

I’d be like “Okay, cool. I’ll just bill *you* for my fares until the car’s fixed then, yeah?”

2.5hr commute, seriously?! And she thought this was viable?

Glad you got your DM involved. Good luck.

Sounds very similar to my SM

Might not be the person. Maybe it's the role.

It sucks, but transportation to work is our responsibility. It's a job. People take buses to work.

Sure, but not when the commute is 2.5 hours long and they have the option to relocate to another store

People who want a job show up for their job.

I'm a manager. I have recently dealt with a similar situation. I let the person know I'd help with their finances for a week, but I would need them to get to their scheduled shifts. I helped them transfer. Is the manager for OP being a dick? I can't say. They may already be short staffed. OP maybe called out all the time. OP may be an unrealiable partner. All I can say is that I hope things work out for everybody.
