Starting the deposit and dropping tills…Who does it and What time do you usually start the deposit and drop some tills? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by HappyBarista
Does the opening shift do it at the end of their shift 11a-2p? Mid-shifts responsibility2p-4p? Closer does that?

typically the openers should start the deposit. sometimes it gets started early (8-10) if they have people leaving early and they’re on top of their till count but sometimes it’s right before they leave (12-2) mid shift (at least at my store) is told to try their hardest to not touch any money so there’s less hands in the deposit. but sometimes morning shift is too busy and doesn’t close tills, then it’s mid shifts duty! hope this helps ☺️

This is exactly how it’s been done in my last 3 stores too! New store and I had this conversation with my SM who said “yes, for sure if you can do it before you leave the morning shift.” Now the SM said in our last huddle “Don’t drop tills unless everything else is done. It really doesn’t make a difference for the closer.”

That makes the SM look so two faced to me! I specifically asked and they said yes and now they said don’t do that.

Also the closing ssv has been telling me it makes a big difference for them!!!

The SM was saying we need the extra tills after the morning crew leaves. Really? At that point we usually only have 2-3 baristas total! We never need more than one till for drive and one for cafe.

Sooooo aggravating!!

My store only has 4 tills so ymmv, but we don't start the deposit until 3-5 hours before we close. It usually takes me ~3 minutes to count down and make change for each till, so your SM is probably right that it doesn't make much difference for the closing shift. If I want to get ahead I can quite easily slot <10 minutes of cash management into my afternoon.
