Starbucks interview (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Left-Needleworker422
Hey, guys! I just came out of my Starbucks interview for a barista position. It went really well and I was offered the job. The SM also said if I was interested in a supervisor role that would be an option for me. I’ve never worked at Starbucks, so what would that entail?

Thanks!

When you start a a barista watch what you're shifts do. They basically manage the floor, breaks, etc. They also do pulls and counts of products and sandwiches. It's true leadership for sure. I loved all my shifts when I worked there. They definitely are a team at Starbucks.

it’s basically the position between barista and manager, you arrange the baristas on the floor in certain positions, run breaks, pull food, tell the baristas what needs to be done on the shift, etc. i would definitely recommend starting as a barista first because starting as a shift supervisor immediately is very jarring and can be very hard (and from what i’ve seen at my store, it doesn’t usually work out well), but that’s just my opinion. i hope whatever you choose works out for you!!

Agreed. I don’t want to take on a role that I’m not qualified for. Does the SM give hours?

a supervisor role involves taking the food safety certification exam just so you know! they give you study materials though :)

I never accepted the supervisor position…. He said it’s an option for me. He said once my training is done we can talk about it….

i would definitely ask him when you start or when your done with training. i though you had to work for 6 months before you could be considered for a supervisor position though, but he could be offering to help you start training early so you don’t go into it cold.
remember not to act too much above your wage. don’t be a supervisor if you aren’t getting the title and pay of one, and good luck!

Great advice. It’s a new store,
so I’m wondering if they are having issues hiring. But the “not working above wage” is great advice.

it could be they don’t have any supervisors willing to transfer, if so then it’s fine- as long as you get the training you’ll do great.
