An old Barista seeking an answer….Is the iced coffee that comes in the pitcher with Orange lid decaf? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Death-Metal-Halide
I go to this Starbucks regularly, and have noticed that they pour iced coffee from a pitcher with a brown lid, and when that runs out they start pouring from a pitcher with an orange lid. I want to say that’s decaf but am looking for confirmation…thnx

Orange lid is technically for cold brew but most stores have it on tap so they probably don’t need them anymore and just use them for their iced coffee instead. My store has a Curtis to store iced coffee so we actually use orange lids for sweet cream 😂

We have gray lids for sweet cream!
Mea-fae_Owl73 2 points 1y ago
Curtis is our main man too!

We don’t have decaf iced coffee. They might not have enough brown lids and use the orange lid as a back up.
dazedandconfusedhere 2 points 1y ago
A very small number of stores have decaf iced coffee
stfuthomas 1 points 1y ago
Either way the brown lid is for iced coffee and orange is for cold brew.

Our pitchers with an orange lid is Cold Brew
alyssughjo 5 points 1y ago
Same. Our orange lids are for uncut cold brew. Iced coffee when not in the canister is brown lid, but we also only have decaf shots, not coffee.

It honestly depends on the store. I’ve had stores that have used yellow for lemonade AND sweet cream, and someone had been using the kiwi for black tea backups.
No one cares anymore lol

Decaf was a grey lid. Orange is cold brew, brown is iced coffee.

I don't think any stores do iced decaf anymore. It never sells. If they're using an orange lid on a pitcher of iced coffee, and you know it's iced coffee, then the best logical guess is that they ran out of lids and needed to use something for it lol

We do not have any type of iced coffee that is decaf. As others have said, the orange lids were originally for cold brew but are probably being re-purposed for something else now as the cold brew is not kept in pitchers anymore. Typically, old lids like that are simply reused and relabeled for something different. It can’t possibly be decaf tho, because like I said, none of our cold coffees are available as decaf.

20 years ago we did decaf ice coffee in a blue pitcher that was labeled “decaf ice coffee”. It rarely sold and the company discontinued offering it altogether.

I’m so confused because decaf iced coffee is available??? Do you just not order it and brew at your store? We brew two pitchers of decaf iced a day and go through almost of it in the summer
she_who_walks 2 points 1y ago
Could be your location, or possibly the type of store? I’ve been with the Bux for years now and I’ve been a shift for a while, never once seen decaf iced coffee to brew…

My store has decaf. Not sure if it's not avaible everywhere or your store doesn't order it.
she_who_walks 2 points 1y ago
It’s not even available to order at most stores. I’m a SSV and I ply most of the orders at my store, it’s not something that’s available in most markets. I’m not sure if it’s a country specific thing maybe, or perhaps a test item that they’re trying out in certain areas…

I'm in New England and we've had it for years. So must be a market thing. I use to be the lead at a Target Starbucks and I just didn't order it, cause it never sold.

I’ve been in several stores but all on the west coast, Seattle and over into the PNW so that would make more sense. Plus, Tarbux/Kroger/Safeway, any of those retail Starbs do have different products than corporate stores, so that could be part of it too… interesting!!
Perfect_Marsupial_60 1 points 1y ago
we use an urn for iced coffee and kegs for cold brew. our pitchers are used for sweet cream and lemonade so we just use whatever lid
Cool_Cartographer_48 1 points 1y ago
In my store it’s Un Cut cold brew with orange lids and it’s rare we use this or even have a pitcher for it
uwumoment 1 points 1y ago
orange lids were for uncut cold brew but since many stores have cold brew on tap now they just use it for iced coffee. in my stores case, we have a bigger pitcher called a curtis that dispenses iced coffee, so we don’t really use the orange lids at all
Necessary_Low939 1 points 1y ago
Back in the day (ten years ago), the decaf was a gray lid. The orange is for regular coffee and only used when closing. Brown lid is for black tea and we don’t serve decaf iced coffee anymore.

We have decaf iced coffee. They are in a silver and blue bag. They are smaller and brewed in quarter batches. We use a brown lid for ours. We only go through a pitcher a day.
aee78 1 points 1y ago
In our store regular ice coffee is in a big urn. Decaf has either a brown or grey lid, with a label that says decaf on it.

Orange lids have cold brew molded into the lid it's self. We sometimes use the orange lids for sweet cream.
overturned23 1 points 1y ago
No. We just the brown ones. That’s cold brew with the orange lids. But they could be reusing them
Responsible_Snow7109 1 points 1y ago
I kno most stores dont have decaf iced coffee but my store does. Its in a picther with a light sea green color lid. We have a handful of people that order it at my store. We never make more then one picture a day but we definitely it everyday. But every story uses different colored lids for certain things only. I know my store keeps sweet cream in the pictures with the gray lids. Then we use the brown lids only for black iced tea. I don't think we have an orange one besides whatever that color is for the new pineapple refresher that came out. So some stores use some of the lid colors for different things.

Okay, thanks for the prompt reply…I guess I’m a bit cynical these days.
